I generally agree, actually. It isn't as pretty as the SNES version, but it kept its best features and added its own neat twists. Plus its portable, and portable is better than non portable.

So what exactly are the differences between DQ3 GBC and DQ3 SNES? I've never seen a good list of the changes so I don't know which is the best version.

Offhand, here is what I remember:
The biggest addition is the inclusion of monster medals. Monster medals are basically coins that are randomly dropped after battles that have pictures on them. They come in three ranks; bronze, silver, and gold. Furthermore you can trade these medals with friends. Curiously, some hackers found a full set of medals of monsters from DQIV, implying there was a potentially planned gbc remake of 4 that would have been compatible, but in the end was never released.
There was a bonus dungeon added as well. This dungeon required you to have a certain amount of medals to progress. At the end of the dungeon the hardestboss in the game awaits.
Finally, i am not entirely sure but I think the gbc version has a pachisi track not in the SNES version.
