A game where you can fight wars and slowly capture territory by territory where finally getting to their capitol?

And in the game, capturing a capitol means havoc for the opponent?

Sure I know in MoO you can go straight for an enemies capitol, but I play by slowly capturing planets towards the goal.

Master of Magic, one of my favorite games ever. I've yet to play MoO but I've heard they're very similar.

I got the same vibe from Galactic Civilizations II. I'd generally convert enemy territories with what was basically culture in that game, though. Bribe enemies to war each other, subvert newly conquered territories to my side, give advanced technology to the enemies of any nation that wised up to what I was doing... priceless. :D
