Rock n' Roll and Glam Metal... It never died

The first enjoyable Dragon Quest, I think. It's also a pretty good one, too. I'm not really sure whether I should base my rating off of the NES or GBC version, so I'll average the two.

^ The GBC version is fantastic but then it's the same as the Super Famicon version (which infact is better than the GBC engine so).

And yes DQ3 was also the first fun DQ game for me. 1 wasn't all that bad but nothing too great. 2 was a horrid experience and possibly one of the most difficult RPGs I've ever played.

Only played the GBC version of this so I'll be rating based on that.

8/10

There's too much grinding, you're expected to find some things in the middle of nowhere without adequate hints (Final Key!), and the class/personality customization isn't as accessible or explained as much it should be. I really love this game though. Got all the way to Divinegon on a solo-Hero game once.

Also the monster animations were pretty amazing for a GBC game and put most of the SNES RPG library to shame.
