This may become a playthrough topic, in which case there will be spoilers, obviously. Though...yeah.
I've never beaten a Mega Man game before. I used to own Mega Man Battle Network for the GBA, but...that was Battle Network. Time to get into this franchise proper.
So this game is supposed to be infamous for its difficulty, no? Plus there's the issue of a password system instead of a proper save system, right? Does that mean that I will need to keep a notebook to note down passwords? Whatever.
And man it's going to feel so funny playing through Mega Man 2 for the first time right after it looks like Capcom has shelved the poor guy for good. Playing through Super Metroid the week after Other M's release last year may feel like child's play in comparison.

I want to keep myself in a cyberpunk mood for Final Fantasy VII, and I figured that Mega Man 2 was a decent enough way to do it. Also I noticed that I somehow have 1100 Nintendo points in the Wii Shop Channel.

No not really. Unless you're just terrible at these type of games. There's a Normal and a Difficult mode. Normal mode is really just super easy mode and Difficult mode is the Japanese normal mode.

The game can be beaten in an hour so it really shouldn't be an issue
I suppose I should also embarrassingly confess that the only NES-native game I've beaten was Super Mario Bros. 3, and that was via the GBA version. Uh oh. Also Mega Man 2 will be the first non-Mario 2D platformer I will hopefully finish.
I still think I'll be keeping passwords, if only to be on the safe side.

Ironic, very true. Hopefully I get the same feeling as I'm playing through Final Fantasy VII, Xenogears, and Final Fantasy Tactics all for the first time right as people are speaking about Square's "demise".

You should play more NES games. River City Ransom, Mega Man 3, Kirby's Adventure, LoZ, and Blaster Master are all aces.
I'll see some time in the future. For now I mostly want to tour the original PlayStation and the Metal Gear Solid series. Since I can't actually start until I've moved, I'm using Mega Man 2 as a "placeholder" of sorts.
@DauntlessHunter: I once had a playthrough topic removed because I forgot to post a spoiler warning, so I wanted to be on the safe side here.
Also I just found out that it's Mega Man Battle Network 3 that I used to own.
Never heard of Shadowgate.

Maybe in another 5 years when the N64 patents expire and they start making portable clones for $50, I don't feel like busting out the ol' original hardware.
