The TV Title is justifiable, seeing as it's supposed to be defended on TV.

Though the fact that most titles are defended weekly is a bit silly..

WCW Thunder
Airdate:
April 16th, 1998
Arena/Location: Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota
Commentators: Bobby Heenan, Tony Schiavone, and Lee Marshall

We start Thunder off with a replay of the end of Nitro.

After the opening video, we go to the announce booth. , The announcers talk up the what happened on Nitro, and that the main event of Thunder tonight will be Nash/Savage vs. Hart/Sting. Chances that someone even gets pinned? 8%

Match One: Buff Bagwell w/Vincent vs. Rick Steiner

Lee Marshall tells us that Rick Steiner is looking to find out who got to his brother, and believes it was Bagwell. Apparently Kevin Nash's admittance never counted.

Kind of a slow match here. Rick Steiner seems to have control of the match, then Scott Steiner runs out and causes the DQ.

Winner by DQ: Rick Steiner

Two on one on Rick Steiner, but Lex Luger comes out to make the save. 1/2*

Vdeo of Hogan saying Savage doesn't have what it takes to be champ, and saying that he's ready for his title back.

Nash cuts a promo on Hogan, calling him a turd. He then goes on to hype up the main event tonight, and his match at Spring Stampede.

Video for Goldberg.

Commentators: Bobby Heenan, Tony Schiavone, and Mike Tenay

Match Two: Goldberg vs. Barry Darsow

Apparently Goldberg was roommates with Kevin Greene.

Jackhammer, Spear, Match.

Winner by pinfall: 47-0 73-0

SQUASH

Another video for Hogan, where he says he's the leader of the nWo, and deserves a shot at the title.

Hype up for Raven/DDP.

Commentators: Bobby Heenan, Mike Tenay, and Lee Marshall

Schiavone interviews Dillon. We are told that on Nitro, the US Champion must defend the title against Bill Goldberg. Tony says it'll be Goldberg's first shot at a title. Did he forget about his TV Title match?

Match Three: Booker T(c) vs. Rick Fuller for the WCW World Television Championship

Short bout that sees Booker T in full control after he hits a big spinebuster on Fuller. Booker T get the win after a Harlem Sidekick followed by the Missile Dropkick.

Winner, and STILL WCW World Television Champion: Booker T

1/2*

Hogan cuts another promo stating that he SHOULD still be champion. I'm pretty sure this is how you subtly tell the fans that Hogan will be champ soon <_<.

Hogan/Nash video, hyping up the dissolution of thees two.

Tony Schiavone informs us that Luger/Rick Steiner will go against Bagwell/Scott Steiner. This brings out Scott Steiner/Bagwell, and they have Tony repeat what he just said. Scott/Bagwell say they aren't showing up at the PPV.

Commentators: Bobby Heenan, Tony Schiavone, and Mike Tenay

Match Four: Scott Norton w/Vincent vs.Chris Benoit w/Calgary Hitmen jersey

Despite giving up a lot of weight and height to Norton, Benoit holds his own against Norton, including throwing him in a few suplexes. Benoit had the win with the Crippler Crossface, but Vincent runs in and causes a DQ.

Winner by DQ: Chris Benoit

Booker T rusn in, but he's too late as Norton/Vincent run off. Booker T helps up Benoit, but Benoit pushes Booker T down again. *

A replay of one of Bret Hart's videos from Nitro, saying Nash/Hogan are both snakes.

Commentators: Bobby Heenan, Mike Tenay, and Lee Marshall

Schiavone in the ring interviewing Giant and Piper. Piper is riding the Giant out. Piper cuts a promo while on top of Giant. Piper does a few lame jokes, to no reaction. Giant lets Piper down. I just noticed that Giant is wearing a red knee pad and his left wrist taped up. More hype up for the PPV. Glad to see that's the main eve- Wait, it isn't?!

Commentators: Bobby Heenan, Tony Schiavone, and Lee Marshall

Match Five: Super Calo vs. Curt Hennig w/Rick Rude

Rick Rude throws Marshall off the commentary team. Schiavone asks Rude about the handcuffs. Rude says sometimes they use them during the match, sometimes after hours. Er...

Squash match that sees Hennig win with the Hennigplex.

Winner by pinfall: Curt Hennig

SQUASH

Another promo from Hogan, as he cuts a promo on DDP. Er.. Okay.

WCW Motorsports

Commentators: Bobby Heenan, Tony Schiavone, and Mike Tenay

Match Six: Chavo Guerrero Jr. w/Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Jericho(c) w/Inferno's Headband for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship

The announcers talk more about Goldberg's US Title match than this match.

Squash match that sees Jericho win with the Liontamer. Chavo actually made it to the ropes but Eddie knocked Chavo's hands off of it.

Winner, and STILL WCW Cruiserweight Champion: Chris Jericho

Squash

Iaukea comes out and hits Jericho with a scale. As they fight to the back, Eddie/Chavo have an arguement in the ring. Eddie then says that if Chavo beats Ultimo Dragon, this deal is off. Eddie says things will get worse if he loses.

Hogan out with Bischoff and Disciple. Hogan says Nash has one last chance to mend the fence and admit Hogan is far better than he is. He then says everyone in the nWo admits that Hogan deserves to get the belt back.

Bret Hart video where he talks about how he wants a shot at the World Title. He wants a fair shot.

Schiavone interviewing Dillon again. Tony asks about the Savage's situation. Dillon says all he knows is that Goldberg WILL show up, and that Bagwell/Steiner must show up. He said Savage must have a doctor's clearance and no cast on his arm. Savage out and says that he'll do whatever he wants, and he is in charge of his own destiny.

Match Seven: Brian Adams w/Vincent vs. Giant w/Roddy Piper

Adams goes to the top rope... and slips off. About thirty seconds later, Giant goes for the chokeslam, and we get a DQ.

Winner by DQ: Giant

nWo B-team out, and Giant beats them up as Piper directs traffic. N/R

We get a video of Raven.

Commentators Bobby Heenan, Tony Schiavone, and Lee Marshall

Match Eight: Saturn w/Kidman vs. Silver King

Squash match that sees Saturn win with the Rings of Saturn after a superplex.

Winner by submission: Saturn

SQUASH

Video package of DDP.

Tony Schiavone in the ring as he interviews DDP. He talks up Goldberg's US Title match on Nitro, then hypes up his match at Spring Stampede.

Another Bret Hart video replay, talking about the guys he respects.

Main Event: nWo (Nash/Savage) w/Elizabeth vs. Bret Hart and Sting

3/4*

Nash works most of this match. Seven minutes in and Savage gets the hot tag. It's clear Savage is badly injured and shouldn't be in the ring. He has Sting down, goes for the Elbow Drop, and the Disciple pushes him off the top turnbuckle.. right on his injured leg. This causes a DQ.

Winners by DQ: Savage/Nash

The nWo argues and Nash nearly goes to blows with Hogan as the nWo pulls them apart. Thunder goes off the air.

Savage, who's injured, is wrestling in the main event of the PPV, while Bret Hart remains at home. Why? Standard Thunder. 4/10

Other Thunder Notes:

1. Something I've noticed is that on Nitro, Tony/Mike/Larry tend to wear shirts and jeans. On Thunder, they tend to wear suits. Heenan is the exception.

2. Tony states that unlike SOME wrestling organizations, WCW delivers on matches. Oh don't get me started Shillvone. I can say a WHOLE lot about that bull****.

Due to some issues with a few of the regular WCW Crew, I've decided that it will be for the best if we try to do Spring Stampede tomorrow night at 5:00 PM CDT.

I know this is a little late, but I can't exactly have a watchfest by myself.

Here's what happened at Spring Stampede

Goldberg goes 48-0 (74-0) as he beats Saturn with the Jackhammer. This match got about eight or so minutes, and the Flock tried to interfere several times, but failed. Goldberg tried to do the Jackhammer from a Military press position, but it looked like he nearly dropped Saturn. 3/4*

Ultimo Dragon was able to make Chavo Guerrero Jr. tap out to the Dragon Sleeper. At several points, Guerrero had Dragon beat, but he wouldn't use underhanded tactics to take the win. This pissed Eddie off. Alright match, but I've seen better. **1/2

Booker T was able to retain the TV Championship against Chris Benoit. These two put on the match of the night, but the ending as a bit hazy because it looked like Benoit pulled Referee Mickey Jay into the Axe Kick, while it also looked like Booker T tapped to the Crippler Crossface while the ref was down. So long as we get more matches, I don't care. ***1/2

Curt Hennig was able to pin the British Bulldog after the Hennigplex. The gimmick here was that Rude/Neidhart were handcuffed together. Though that obviously failed when Neidhart began randomly choking out a cop, and Rude got the handcuff keys. I don't think he really interfered though. The cop turned out to be Vincent, and the three nWo members beat down Neidhart/Bulldog. No sight of Bret Hart. Hmm.. 1/2*

Chris Jericho retained the CW Title against Prince 'Makimaki' Iaukea. Iaukea was able to hold his own at several points, and actually looked half decent in the ring, but Jericho still won with the Liontamer. After the match, Jericho took Prince's skirt as a trophy. **1/4

Lex Luger/Rick Steiner beat Buff Bagwell/Scott Steiner when Luger racked Bagwell. Buff Bagwell initially came down with a badly made cast on his arm, saying he was injured. He wasn't. I admit I didn't see most of this match due to taking a bathroom break, but it wasn't good from what I did see. Thankfully, it was short. 1/4*

Psicosis was able to beat La Parka with a Guillotine Leg Drop. These two put on a pretty good match, despite the crowd's silence. Psicosis didn't try to use his neck as a battering ram, so that's good. **

Hogan/Nash were able to beat Giant/Piper in the Bat on a Pole match. For some bizarre reason, both sides adhered to the rules of a tag match throughout. Giant/Piper got the bat, the bat disappeared, and Disciple brought out a second bat. Hogan used said bat on Piper and pinned him to win. Postmatch, Nash/Hogan seemed to have mended the fence.. only for Hogan to blindside Nash when Nash was going to put Giant in the powerbomb. Bad match. Crap of the Night. -*

Raven was able to win the US Title against DDP in this Raven's Rules match. Everything (including the kitchen sink, literally.) was used here. They tore down half the set, to boot. Good brawl that saw a new Flock member (Horace) interfere and actually clock DDP with a weapon, and giving Raven the win. Shame that Raven's reign is short-lived. ***1/4

Savage was able to win the World Championship from Sting in a no DQ Match. Savage, who was still injured, did his best, but man. That was depressing. The match ended with Elizabeth being knocked out by a Stinger splash (along with the ref), Nash and Hogan interfering. Nash hit the Jackknife on Sting and put Savage on Sting to give him the win. *

Overall, this was more bad than good. The two matches I'd expect to be decent were. The matches I expected to be bad were. The rest of the card went from average to thankfully short. For a B-Level PPV, it did it's job, but aside from two matches, there was nothing to write home about. 4/10

PPV Buyrates:
.72 - up from the year before (.58), but down from the last four shows. The 1st PPV since WW3 1997 to do less than 1.00. On the WWF Side, Unforgiven: IYH did a .85 a week after this.

Other Spring Stampede Notes

1. Hollywood Hogan Homoeroticism Meter: The meter went full rainbow as Hogan was spanked by the Giant in the middle of the ring, then Hogan proceed to wipe his ass on the ring apron. Chances Hogan demanded that spot to be in the match? 300%

WCW Nitro
Airdate:
April 20th, 1998
Arena/Location: World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colorado
Hour One/First Half of Hour Two Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, and Larry Zbyszko

We see footage from Spring Stampede after the show went off the air. Hogan/Disciple attack Nash/Savage as they are celebrating, and various nWo members are on either side of the clash, most notably Scott Norton. Looks like more nWo members are with Nash/Savage than Hall/Disciple.

After the opening video/pyro, the announcers hype up Goldberg/Raven for the US Title. They also inform us that Savage is now World Champion. Mike/Tony talk about what happened, while Larry bows to the crowd, to much applause. As they are talking, Hogan/Bischoff/Disciple come out.

Hogan yaks on that the WCW/nWo World Title is his. He cuts a promo on Savage, saying he wouldn't have won it if it wasn't for his 'big sexy girlfriend' Kevin Nash. He then demands a title shot tonight. Hogan also admits that the nWo has finally split, and that we might see who's on whose side.

We go to the back as we see Goldberg slap himself around as he psyches himself up for the US Title match.

Back to the announce booth as they talk about the obvious split in the nWo. Hogan on one side, then Savage/Nash on the other. They believe Scott Norton is on Savage/Nash's side. Man, they are really pushing Norton as the third guy on Savage/Nash's side.

Randy Savage out now. Savage says that he hate Hogan in life and in death. Aw =(. He said that his goal wasn't to lead the nWo. Why did he say he wanted to do then? He says Hogan's world is going to end real soon. He accepts the challenge for later tonight. He then introduces the NEW leader of the nWo: Kevin Nash.

Nash and Savage in the ring now. Nash grabs a mic, and says Savage is going to beat Hogan tonight, and Hogan will officially be gone from the nWo.

Back to the announce booth again as they talke about the bat match, and hype up the Raven/Goldberg match.

We get a video of Raven talking about Goldberg. Raven says he'll not be 75. Hmm..

Nitro Girls.

Mean Gene shill the Hotline.

Match One: Konnan w/Vincent vs. Chris Adams

About half an hour in, and we finally get a match.

Squash match that see Konnan grab the win with the Tequila Sunrise.

Winner by submission: Konnan

SQUASH

We get more footage of Goldberg backstage, hyping himself up.

Match Two: Barbarian w/Jimmy Hart vs. Wayne Bloom

Wayne Bloom with jobber entrance. Hmm...

Barbarian runs through Bloom and pins him with a big boot.

Winner by pinfall: Barbarian

Jimmy Hart actually got smacked around by Bloom, but to no avail. SQUASH

Another video of Raven hyping up the his match, saying the streak is over.

Chris Jericho out with Iaukea's skirt, a poster of Dean Malenko, and a stand. He sets up the Dean Malenko's picture, and says it's a shrine to Malenko. He said the bad news is Dean Malenko has retired, and will never wrestle again, but the good news is that Malenko is now working at Harry's Burgers in Tampa Florida. Hah!

Match Three: Chris Jericho(c) vs. Juventud Guerrera for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship

Juvi puts up a valiant effort, and at several points looks to have the win, but Jericho is able to come back and puts Juvi in the Liontamer, but Juvi doesn't tap out. Juvi eventually passes out to the pain.

Winner, and STILL WCW Cruiserweight Champion: Chris Jericho

Jericho acts shocked. "Oh my god, I killed Juvi!" *1/4

We still Goldberg working out in the back now.

Match Four: Raven(c) vs. Bill Goldberg in a Raven's Rules match for the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship.

Michael Buffer does intros.

Bit of a brawl here. At one point, Goldberg puts Raven in the ankle lock. A Ken Shamrock expy using the Ankle Lock? Who knew?! Raven is able to hold his own against Goldberg for only so long, but Raven eats a spear. The Flock runs in and they all get beaten up. Raven tries to escape, but a few fans (plants) throws Raven back over the barricade. Raven eats another spear, Jackhammer on a stop sign, and Goldberg is the new champion!

Winner, and NEW WCW United States Heavyweight Champion: Goldberg (49-0) 75-0

Alright hardcore bout that got about eight minutes. Talk about killing a guy after a nice feud.. *1/2

We get a replay of Goldberg grabbing the win. Schiavone called it one of the biggest moments in Nitro history. Actually, I'd agree with Shillvone. It was pretty memorable.

Nitro Girls

Match Five: La Parka vs. Ultimo Dragon

Decent bout that sees Chavo and Eddie getting involved and helping La Parka grab the win.

Winner by pinfall: La Parka

*1/4

Rest of Hour Two/Three Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, and Bobby Heenan

Match Six: Chris Benoit vs. Curt Hennig w/Rick Rude

Hennig wearing a knee brace. Rude takes Tenay's seat at the booth.

Benoit works over Hennig's knee, calls out Rude, and Rude walks down to the ring. Rude tries to help out Hennig, but Hennig's knee injury is too great, and Benoit has Hennig in the Crippler Crossface. Rude interferes to cause a DQ.

Winner by DQ: Chris Benoit

Hennig/Rude beat up on Benoit, Booker T makes the save. Benoit/Booker T have a staredown, before going to blows. 3/4*

Mean Gene in the ring as he interviews Piper. Mean Gene believes Piper lost the battle, but won the war. Piper gets a few cheap pops by mentioning Denver Broncos. **** them. Piper says that he wants Hogan to have a night of misery. He says the match will be no DQ, and no run ins. He also states that this fight will be go until we have a winner.

Match Seven: Hammer vs. Saturn

Less match and more brawl. These two fight all over the ring, and eventually fight outside so long, that there is a double countout, but neither side is letting up.

Double Countout

1/2*

Hour Three .... Ten minutes early

The Announcers talk about Hogan, and the nWo. That's new.

Match Eight: Public Enemy w/tables vs. nWo (Bagwell/Steiner) w/Trophy

Both of Bagwell/Steiner get in front of each other to pose, they argue before making up. Hmm.... Tag teams? Before you know it you'll tell me they will want their own titles! Oh wait..

Bagwell and Grunge start this match off by posing. Bagwell is obviously in better shape. Back and forth brawl between these two men. The end sees Bagwell on the table, which Tony calls the 'Buff'et table. Grunge and Rock go through the table, and Scott Steiner goes for the Recliner to get the wi- Wait, Bagwell wants to the Buff Blockbuster, and Bagwell grabs the win.

Winners by pinfall: Bagwell/Steiner

*

Nitro Girls

Match Nine: Booker T(c) vs. Psicosis for the WCW World Television Championship

Psicosis works over Booker T's knee, to take out most of Booker's kicks. Despite this, Booker T get plenty of decent offense in, then comes back with a sidewalk slam, Harlem Sidekick, and missile dropkick to retain.

Winner and STILL WCW World Television Champion: Booker T

Good clash of styles between these two, and a match that got close to ten minutes of time. **1/4

Match Ten: Brian Adams w/Vincent vs. Lex Luger

About what you'd expect from these two. Slugfest with the most advanced moves being a few basic slams. Luger gaining ground, and Vincent is racked. Konnan tries to do a run in, but is racked. Luger wins with a clothesline.

Winner by pinning: Lex Luger

1/4*

We go to the announce booth where they talk up about what happened after Spring Stampede, IE who is on whose side on the nWo.

Main Event: Hollywood Hogan w/Disciple vs. Randy Savage(c) in a No DQ match for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship

Michael Buffer does the intros. Hogan tells Disciple to take care of anyone from the nWo.

All Hogan for the most of this, but Savage comes back near the end, and uses the belt to beat up on Hogan. Savage looks like he's going for the Big elbow. He hits it, but his knee works against him. Hogan up first and works over Savage's knee. This is a set up for Hogan to put on the Figure Four. After a few seconds, Savage gets to the ropes.. but this is a no DQ match. Uh... Savage choking out Hogan, as the ref is hit by a Stone Cold Char- Apocalypse by Disciple as the two men beat up on Savage now. Hogan/Disciple use the ringpost to run Savage's bad knee against it.

Nash runs out, but Bischoff runs in from behind and holds on Nash. Disciple holds Nash while Hogan has the belt, but Hogan hits Disciple, Nash attacks Bischoff, and Nash hits the Jackknife on Hogan! Nash puts Savage over Hogan and wakes the ref up. Bret Hart out(?!) and hits Nash with the belt, the puts Hogan on Savage. Nick Patrick counts the... Three.

Winner and NEW WCW World Heavyweight Champion: Hollywood Hogan

Piper runs out and tries to figure out what happened. Bret Hart knocks out Piper. Bret Hart grins as Nitro goes off the air. 1/4*

Hogan is yet again World Champion, and Bret Hart has for some bizarre reason turned heel. Why? I'm not entirely sure. Rough Nitro. A few okay matches, but Hogan is world champion again, much to the crowd's... disapproval. I'm no fan of it either. 3.5/10

TV Rating:
5.1, versus the 4.4 on Raw. That ties the record for highest, but that will be short lived.

Other Nitro Notes:

1. Unlike most of the previous Nitros I've seen, this was the WWE edit of this show. When the nWo guys came out, the colors went black and white. This is how things were in WWE's version of the nWo, but it really doesn't work for WCW. Why? Because the nWo comes out. ALOT. After a while, it got pretty dumb looking. Not only that, but Goldberg came out to his WWE music, and Michael Buffer was edited out (twice). That was definitely inferior to the original stock music. Hogan also comes out to standard nWo music.

2. I've made it relatively clear that I wasn't a fan of the Goldberg/Raven match. While Goldberg was over huge at this point, they should have built up Raven a few weeks at least. I guess you can make the claim that Raven was still hurting from the PPV, but man. This could have been built up as a good PPV bout. I guess they wanted 75-0 to feel special, or something.

3. Expect Slamboree on Tuesday Night.

WCW Thunder
Airdate:
April 22nd, 1998
Arena/Location: Carolina Coliseum in Columbia, South Carolina
Commentators: Lee Marshall, Tony Schiavone, and Bobby Heenan

The announcers start Thunder by talking about Goldberg being US Champion, and Hogan as World Champion. The crowd's chanting Goldberg. They then talk about Hart's apparent heel turn.

Bischoff, Hogan, and Disciple out. Hogan poses with his title. The Disciple has the paint and sprays nWo on the title. He did a better job than Rodman, at least. Bischoff rambles on as the crowd chants Hogan sucks. Hogan says everyone, all the promoters are scared of him. He says the entire nWo is celebrating in the back. Bischoff even rattles off TV ratings. 6.5 for the main event. Oh goody.

Video of Hogan's promo from Nitro.

Savage's promo from later on that night.

Match One: Disco Inferno vs. Booker T(c) for the WCW World Television Championship

Tony told us that Bret Hart literally stabbed everyone in the back. How everyone survived, I dunno.

Decent bout between these two. Booker T is able to retain from a monster sidewalk slam, Harlem Sidekick, and missile dropkick to retain.

Winner, and STILL WCW World Television Champion: Booker T

Decent opening match. *3/4

WCW Motorsports

Commentators: Mike Tenay,. Tony Schiavone, and Bobby Heenan

Match Two: The Barbarian w/Jimmy Hart vs. Prince Iaukea

The crowd shows their approval by starting a loud we want Flair chant.

Squash match that sees Barbarian dominate and win with a big boot.

Winner by pinfall: Barbarian

The crowd is dead, as is Iaukea's push. SQUASH

We see footage from the DDP/Raven US Title match from Spring Stampede

We get some footage from the Hogan/Savage match from Nitro.

Commentators: Lee Marshall, Tony Schiavone, and Bobby Heenan

Match Three: Vicious and Delicious w/Vincent vs. Luger and Rick Steiner w/Ted Dibiase

Lee Marshall is still convinced Bagwell talked Scott Steiner in the nWo. Tony points out Nash said otherwise <_<.

Bagwell/Norton work over Luger for most of the match. Rick Steiner gets the hot tag, and cleans house. Luger/Norton fighting outside, and Rick up for the Bulldog. Vincent tries to hit Rick with a chair, but Scott Steiner stops him! S. Steiner argues with Vincent, and as he does Rick Steiner hits the Steiner Bulldog on Bagwell and goes for the cover. The ref is distracted and S. Steiner hits R. Steiner with the chair instead! He puts Bagwell's arm over Rick but.. something is wrong. Bagwell is grabbing his neck The ref counts the pin, but neither man was covering the other.

Winners by pinfall: ???

Looks like Bagwell injured his neck. Luger is talking to Rick. The ref runs to the back and and comes back and gives the match to Vicious and Delicious

Winners by pinfall: Vicious and Delicious

Everyone's checking up on Bagwell now. It doesn't look good. 3/4*

Before the break, we get a replay of Nash powerbombing Hogan.

Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, and Bobby Heenan

Norton, Vincent, and a trainer are checking up on Bagwell. We get a replay of the Steiner Bulldog, oh man. Looks the move didn't connect properly, and landed neck first on the back of Rick Steiner. Heenan leaves the announce booth to go check what's going on. Even members of Raven's Flock are looking on. Lee Marshall joins the announce booth as Heenan is down checking everything out. Heenan back and says they can't move Bagwell until an ambulance arrives.

We go to the announce booth as Tony/Mike try to talk about the nWo going ons, while Heenan looks on, visibly concerned. Not surprising considering his own neck injuries.

They then go on to show footage from Nitro of the Savage/Hogan match. While the footage is going on, we are told that Bagwell is moving around.

After the footage of the match is shown, the announcers state they want to know why Hart did what he did. I don't even know if that was explained.

Match Four: Horace Boulder vs. Evan Kourageous

The crowd shows their approval of this match by chanting boring.

These two duke it out for a few seconds, but DDP comes from out of nowhere and hits Horace with a Diamond Cutter!

Winner by DQ: Horace Boulder

He shakes hands with Kourageous, but he eats a Diamond Cutter! He then hits the Diamond Cutter on the referee! N/R

DDP cuts a promo on Raven. Raven comes out and they stare down for a few minutes before Raven walks away. DDP says Raven will walk away, like he did to his sister, and mother. Raven teases going to the ring, but each time he walks away. Page says he's not leaving the ring. He hten leaves the ring through the crowd.

Commentators: Lee Marshall, Mike Tenay, and Bobby Heenan

Schiavone interviews Randy Savage. Savage eventually comes out. He says Hogan and Bret Hart and scum. He says he's tired of hearing Bret Hart saying he was screwed, that he's been saying it for the last year. Savage says Hart is now #1 on his hit list.

Hype video from Goldberg.

Commentators: Lee Marshall, Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan

Match Five: Mike Enos vs. Bill Goldberg(c) for the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship

Enos tries his best, but eventually it's Spear, Jackhammer, Match.

Winner, and STILL WCW United States Champion: Goldberg (50-0) 76-0

SQUASH

Main Event: Scott Steiner w/Vincent vs. Sting

Vincent is carrying two trophies now.

teiner is able to use his larger mass to control Sting, while Vincent get a few cheap shots in. Sting comes back with a few foots to the face and looks like he's going to get the win with the Scorpion Deathlock, but the nWo runs out to cause a DQ.

Winner by DQ: Sting

Norton/Konnan/Vincent attacking Sting, while Rick Steiner chases out Scott Steiner. Giant runs out and saves Sting. 3/4*

Sting grabs a mic, and says every week it's the exact same thing. Standard Nitro Ending #2! Sting says Nash is pretty funny, and should be doing stand up. He then says every joke has a punchline. He says he wants to give Nash his spot.. not his dog spot, liver spot, or Arn Anderson's spot, but his spot at Slamboree. He wants Nash to get Scott Hall, and Sting with Giant, and put the titles on the line. Thunder ends with Giant running the ropes.

Mood whiplash. We go from a very painful looking neck injury to Bagwell, to Sting telling jokes.

It's sort of hard to rate this Thunder. On one hand, they had to cancel a few matches because the Bagwell thing took some time, and I don't blame them for that. Because of that, this was a rather poor final showing of Thunder (there won't be a show for two weeks.) On the other hand, even if the Benoit/Psicosis match had happened, hw much better would the show be? I'm going to hit this with a 3.5/10. I know it's not fair, but what can I do?

Other Thunder Notes:

1. Post-Thunder Movie Shilling: Disco Inferno and Bobby Heenan hypes up Another 48 Hours.

2. Technically speaking, the next Nitro will be split into two, with one an hour long, the other two hours. I'm going to watch both tomorrow.

3. This is the footage of the Bagwell injury.

WCW Nitro
Airdate:
April 27th, 1998
Arena/Location: Norfolk Scope in Norfolk, Virginia
1st Half of Nitro Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, and Larry Zbyszko

We Nitro with Nitro Girls! Wait, it's Alex Wright!! Captain Silly Dance is back! Security detains Wright and takes him to the back.

The announcers talk about the challenge Sting and Giant issued to the Outsiders for the World Tag Team Titles. They are still trying to figure out Hart's actions.

Nash/Savage out. Kevin Nash does the survey. Pro-WCW crowd, it seems. Nash says if Sting/Giant want the belts, come get them. Nash then says the Wolfpack is expanding. Savage is the newest member, it seems. Nash then cuts a promo on Hart, saying he's basically coming after him. Savage gets on the mic and basically says the same thing. Nash then brings out another member of the Wolfpack. Hey, it's Konnan! Considering Konnan was hanging with Nash the last few weeks, it makes sense. Konnan says that Hogan doesn't want none of the Wolfpack.

Replay of Bret Hart turning heel.

Video package for Juventud Guerrera. Juvi says he'll never quit.

Jericho out. He's got Juvi's mask and Dean Malenko poster. He insults Juvi, before he has an 'exclusive' interview with Dean Malenko...'s poster. Jericho says Malenko is the new fry cook at Harry's Burgers. Jericho then calls Malenko a quitter. He then dedicates his match to Dean Malenko.

Match One: Chris Jericho(c) vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr. w/Eddie Guerrero for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship

Chavo on a hot streak early, but the veteran Jericho is able secure a firm control, that is before Chavo sends Jericho flying into Eddie, and get a very close two count. Jericho comes back and wins with the Liontamer.

Winner, and STILL WCW Cruiserweight Champion: Chris Jericho

Eddie and Jericho have a war of words, before Eddie turns around and insults Chavo, along with Jericho. *1/4

2nd Half of Nitro Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, and Bobby Heenan

The announcers talk more about Bret Hart, before they talk about Bagwell's injury. We are told on tomorrow's Nitro we'll get more about Bagwell.

Hogan, Bischoff, and Disciple out. Hogan puts himself over, and talks about the other nWo members who are turning on him.

Main Event: Bill Goldberg(c) vs. Scott Norton for the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship

Tenay claims this is the first time Goldberg's gone against the nWo. I thought he beat Vincent once..

Norton with some decent offense in, and gets the shoulder breaker on Goldberg, but only get a two. Goldberg comes back by countering a second shoulder breaker, Spear, Jackhammer, Match.

Winner, and STILL WCW United States Heavyweight Champion: Goldberg (51-0) 77-0

*1/4

The announcers talk about Bret Hart some more, and say he's an impact player. Heenan says Hart's always lookedo ut for himself.

Mean Gene interviews Bret Hart. Hart cuts a promo on Savage, claiming he's never stepped in the ring with Hart. Mean Gene asks him why he did what he did. Hart dodges the question and says tomorrow night he'll tell Hogan to his face. He says he's tired sitting on the bench, and has made his business clear.

Not much of anything of substance on this Nitro. I think this Nitro aired at like midnight, so I can understand why they didn't do anything big here. The better question is why even show it if you won't do anything? 3/10

Other Nitro Notes:

1. This was the Nitro that DX tried to 'invade' WCW, since Raw and Nitro were about twenty miles apart from each other.

2. Funny Aneurysm Moment of the Night: "The Macho Man and (...) Elizabeth, they already got one foot in the glue factory!"

I'm not sure why I watch Thunder. I guess part of it is because they can be found rather easily, and I wouldn't feel quite as satisfied with this project if I didn't at least try to watch every show I could from this time period.

If I could find every Saturday Night, Worldwide, and the fifteen other C-shows that were around at the time, I'd watch them as well! When I set out to do something, I make sure I do as much as I can!

I know if I was staring down months of re-watching 1999 WCW I would be very depressed.

I'm probably going to hate myself by the end of this project.

Curiously, when was Lee Marshall finally removed from Thunder, and why the hell did they switch around the announce crew so much during that show?

I have no idea when he was finally removed, but knowing WCW they switched up the announcing crew so much because they were paying for too many announcers and were trying to figure out which combinations worked best maybe?

I guess I was asking too much for WCW to be a bit consistent with Thunder. It wouldn't be so bad if the switch ups were more like Nitro, with one doing half the show, and the other doing the other half. Who knows.
