This guy immediately jumps to mind.

Also, if we're not talking individuals, the 2004 Yankees and the 2007 Patriots are also much worse than anything LeBron has ever done.

Im just talking about individuals...and the players reputation and talent def factor in...yeah the pats were an epic choke job (I was delighted), but lebron checking out in the finals is really the pinnacle of sports meltdowns. the guy played like garbage the whole series and was obviously overwhelmed in every 4th quarter.

Then let's talk Dirk Nowitzki losing to the 8th seed after winning League MVP.

That was a big choke job.

And there were others.

But nobody cares once you actually win.

Peyton Manning choked in the playoffs a lot until he won, too.

that wasn't a choke

it wasn't even an upset

everybody with a brain was picking the warriors to win that series

IIRC they went 2-0 against the mavs in the regular season, they were simply a matchup nightmare

mavs would have beaten any other team

we saw it again this year with the grizz tanking to play the spurs (the 1 seed) rather than the lakers (the 2 seed) and then kicking their ass

matchups rule the nba

Manning had a reputation as a choker in part because he could never beat the Patriots, so it's not really limited to losing in big games to inferior teams. Not playing well in big games regardless of opponent is also a factor.

I would say lebrons choke job easily trumps all those, chrono. We are talking about one guy that played terrible throughout an entire series in which his team was heavily favored. the guy was scared to excecute offense in the fourth quarter. I never viewed lebron as the best player in the league (although he easily has the talent to be) because of his lack of clutch ability.

Nobody will be talking about LeBron's "choke" against Dallas 10+ years from now, especially if the day comes when he does win a title.

You will be right if he wins one, leon. dirk was a huge choker too (though not ever the magnitude of lebron), but all is forgiven when you actually get the job done. Like I said, I think lebron has more talent than anyone, he just checks out in the crucial moments.

I hate kobe bryant, but I recognize he is the premier player in the league right now. this isnt about personal bias, it is just about the fact that lebron has a long history of falling apart in crucial situations.

lol people's opinions.

the average person just goes off what they feel and doesn't think logically when it comes to sports. they also only remember the most recent thing that happened.

Thus why Dirk is so high and Lebron is so low.

Lebron is the most talented American athlete since Bo Jackson and is the best basketball player alive. If given the choice, 29 NBA teams would select Lebron and Cleveland would pick Dwight Howard.

yes, three major series that come to mind. spurs in his original finals he was not favored, but he played terrible. The celtics series from 2 years ago and most notably (and terrible) these last finals. The fact that he doesnt make game winning (walk off) shots factors in as well.

Tom Brady doesn't have any game winning TD passes in the playoffs because his team won by a field goal.

Does this make him less clutch than other legends because he didn't personally score the winning points?

He never was. Running into better teams or watching Avery Johnson get outcoached isn't "huge choking." If you check out his playoff stats for the last 5 or 6 years he's been good. This "Dirk chokejob" thing is entirely a media creation and doesn't resemble reality much.

If Rose is as good as you say, that's still no excuse for his continually crappy performances in crunch time, particularly when LeBron was the one guarding him down the stretch.

So to say you'd rather have Rose over LeBron is still kinda shaky at best to me because when they went one on one when it mattered, James bested him.

Name a bigger choker in the last 25 years

John Starks.

After averaging over 19 points a game in the first 6 games of the 1994 NBA Finals, he scored only 8 in Game 7, a game the Knicks lost by 6 points. This performance saw him go 2 for 18 on FG, and 0 for 11 on 3P, more attempts than in any other game in the series.

and lebrons performance against detroit was his one clutch post season game, but it meant nothing as he fell apart when it really mattered.

Off balance game winner against Orlando?

And honestly, LeBron has been fine in the postseason aside from the past two years. People are totally blowing it out of proportion due to lackluster performances the last two years and the heavy expectations he has on his shoulders. Yes, he got rocked in the Finals against San Antonio, but they were clearly overmatched and just lucky to even be there. It's like saying Allen Iverson is a choker because the Sixers got rocked by the Lakers the year they made it to the Finals.
