It'll be more exciting out of combat. And no one can deny how practical having healing is, though we would certainly have had methods no matter what we chose, even if they were item-based.

Confirming that every element would have had healing. Water is just by far the easiest one to wing because it's been used for that purpose since forever. :P

Oh, right, and an update is coming in 10-20ish.

You feel water fall down on you as you stand up, and see two tiny red eyes looking at you from above. The Sprite causes a very, very soft rain to fall down on you, and as it touches your wounds they begin to close. It isn't enough to fully patch you up, but you suddenly don't have to struggle to breath anymore.

[MC HP remaining: 43/70
Empathic Sprite HP remaining: 60/60]

You are quickly forced to put your rejuvenated body to use, however, as the armor charges at you gauntlets still glowing with that dead light. You attempt to strike it down but it swiftly sidesteps, instead smashing your left shoulder against the wall. You feel something snap, and pain erases all coherent thought from your mind for a moment, as blood freely pours from the wound.

[MC's Basic Attack has been dodged!]

The rain continues to pour as the armor raises its gigantic fists once more. The wound on your shoulder barely has time to close before it is ripped open again, as the armor strikes with a steady rhythm. It raises its hands once more...

...And instead, it is smashed away as *you* hit it with a haymaker. The lone crack on the armor multiplies, until its whole body is covered by them, and you glare at it. This is over.

The glow on the gauntlets fades as you take a step forward. As you raise a hand to strike, the blood flowing from your shoulders extends from the tip of your hand, forming a dark red claw. Something in your eyes causes the armor to step back.

"No...no!" It cries, the faintest trace of emotion on its voice...desperation. It tries to strike you down, but with a heavy swipe, you finally smash it to pieces. A dull energy sweeps up your arm as you do so, and the armor shatters, the pieces disappearing after a few instants.

Your arm falls to the side, as the claw dissipates and the sprite's rain continues to pour for a moment before the little creature returns to its previous form and skips toward you, making odd splashing sounds as it goes. It looks up at you, and you sense its worry about the state you're in. You slump down and take a moment to catch your breath, as you repress the urge to laugh, or cry, or shout like a madman. You did it. You survived the encounter with that...thing, somehow. A wave of fatigue washes over you as the realization hits you and the adrenaline discharge that kept you going begins to fade. You're soaked, injured, and dead tired. You feel like you might not be able to stand on your own...

[End Battle]

You hear somebody walk down the steps of the platform's stairs. With what feels like a colossal effort, you manage to turn your head around and see that it is a man in a fancy red coat and business attire, minus tie. Upon seeing you, he lets out a gasp and quickens his steps. "Are you alright, son? What in hell's name happened here? It looks like a goddamn bomb went off or something."

You feel something tugging within the sole pocket in your coat that wasn't ripped to shreds by the armor's attacks, as the Sprite dives into it to avoid being seen, compressing itself into an almost solid ball of water with red eyes.

You shake your head and rack your tired brains. What are you supposed to say to explain this?

6) What will you say to the man in the red coat?
A) Tell him what just happened here.
B) Make up a story.
C) Show him your injuries and ask him if he can call an ambulance.
D) Tell him you're fine and try to leave. You're late for school.

7) Upgrade Choice: Please select an upgrade path to invest on for this level (Current Level: 2).
A) Manipulation; Control of emotions, knowing what to say.
B) Willpower: Mind over Matter.
C) Blood Arts: Mastery over the most powerful magical conductor.
D) Empathy: Understanding others, making them view things your way.

Either he believes us and we can learn more/make a bond, or he'll think we're delusional. Then if we still need medical attention (though we're half okay!), he can handle the pressure of explaining that we're out of our mind.

6. A

Manipulation and Empathy sound similar, just through different methods. I think battles can be handled still, so no need to delve into that. Beside, good speech can circumvent foreseeable fights. That being said, manipulation can use empathy in its methods, tugging at heart stings and the such, but it also helps in situations where simple understanding won't help get out of situations.

My gut says this guy's important in some respect. Telling him the truth is likely to be bad juju if he knows what's going on, and if he doesn't it's unlikely he'll buy us. I don't really want to lie, and we could use a stop at the hospital I think.

Nothing to do with style points. Turn order doesn't seem to be set and we have no speed stat. Normal attacks were already shown to be capable of missing, and our healing was just treading water (So to speak). Even if we got in the healing before being attacked, the enemy could have dropped us straight back down before the MC acted, in which case just killing him with Impulse would have been much smarter (For the same MP, no less). The best bet for not dying and using as little resources as possible was to have both the MC and ES use a special attack.

There is actually a speed stat, just invisible and somewhat variable. In this particular case though, the Feyslaughter Armor would have always gone dead last unless the votes went in favor of allowing it to strike first for some reason.

Not sure where you are getting that from.

Telling a guy a crazy sounding story has only a small chance of acheiving anything remotely good. Having him help us get medical attention still leaves open the chance of telling him everything if he shows any hint of believing us (which he hasn't so far), plus it gives us a better chance of ensuring this guy is on our side. Much better than something that will likely end with him leaving us high and dry. Plus, medical attention.

As far as characterization goes, rather than being a crazy person, we are being a calm thinker, making the smart decisions, and showing a bit of leadership in giving this guy orders in our current state. All four of the upgrade paths have their own characterization though.

No that's fine and all, because that's how it's supposed to work. I suppose I should have said specialization instead of characterization, but after all these -izations I just figured you'd get what I meant. The second choice is tied up, which I believe means it goes to a die roll if no one breaks it.

That was some artistic license to make the scene flow better. The MC's action was resolved before the armor's and merely described as happening afterward for the sake of presenting a cinematic battle. Given that that blow was more or less the one that actually ended the battle (as any attack would have killed the armor afterward barring some dismally unlikely rolls), I took the opportunity to color things a little.

True, but I have my reasons to keep the speed stat hidden. If there's a demand for it though, I could indicate who's going first at the start of a fight to allow for easier planning.

I would say that it's alright to keep speed invisible. It makes more sense to not exactly know what we're getting into at the start of the encounter. Since I assume order of action is fairly static throughout a fight, unless there is an active buff/debuff, we should be good if you at least make it clear in the first round. Then you can tae your artistic liberties.

I don't have any problem with the stat being invisible. My issue is with making the stat invisible, then giving unreliable information when trying to figure out the mechanics of the game. With a CYOA, your ability to play it is based on getting feedback from the writer. If the feedback is false, you get worse results. I made a different move than I would otherwise have made because the turn order was shown to be different than it actually was.

You manage to retain enough presence of mind to bring attention to the many wounds that adorn your body and look miserable and in pain (which is only half-true; At this point, you simply feel numb all over). The man looks at you and nods.

"Don't worry son, help is on the way. Hang on, paramedics will be here in a second." Drawing a cell phone from one of his coat's pockets, he dials a number and helps you to a bench that somehow managed to survive the melee.

"Hello? Yes, there's been an accident at the Rosetta Subway Station. Only one person was injured, but he's in pretty bad shape. He needs to be taken to a hospital, and...yes, thank you, I'll keep an eye on him." He says, before putting the phone down and turning his attention to you. "You must be a pretty healthy young man, to remain standing while looking like you got beat up by a gang of delinquents. Speaking of which, the doctors will want to know how you ended up in this state, but I'll take care of it. You just focus on staying alive and conscious. No need to thank me." He says, lifting a hand to forestall any displays of gratefulness on your part. "It's the least a decent man could do for a fellow human being, is it not?"

Within five minutes the ambulance arrives, and you are taken to the Hospital of the Holy Mercies a couple dozen blocks away. The man in the red coat never stops talking the whole way there. You get the impression that he managed to tell the paramedics quite a few things about how he found you and how terribly hurt you looked while avoiding giving any details about what actually happened, but the events blur together for a time until you find yourself resting on a bed at the hospital, clad in only a patient's gown. You feel the sting of disinfectant all over, and notice that most of your upper body is covered in bandages. From the chair by your bedside, the man nods at you.

"About time you woke up. You dozed off after the nurse finally got done with patching you up, and the doctors decided to let you get some sleep after the ordeal you just went through." He says, giving you a broad grin. "You'll end up with a bunch of scars and maybe a cold due to all that water, but nothing that will hamper your movements, luckily enough. Maybe you can use this to your advantage. Girls dig scars after all." He chuckles, before continuing. "The medicine men said you should take it easy for the next few days and avoid any strenous activities, just in case, but you can leave any time you feel like it. They managed to find your old man's number and leave him a message about your condition, too, so he should be coming around to pick you up soon, I'd expect." You feel something sink within your stomach. Your father is out of town for the next week, busy with a business trip. He's not likely to come for you any time soon.

"Hm? Something wrong, son? From the look on your face, you could guess you're the one who was informed about your kid being sent to the hospital."

8) You're still feeling pretty beat up and the Hospital of the Holy Mercies is very far away from home. Will you...
A) Ask the man in the red coat for help?
B) Spend the night at the hospital and decide what to do tomorrow?
C) Tough it out and go home alone?
D) Do something else? [Please specify]

[Voting will last for an hour or until a vote is cast for this choice, for the sake of moving the story along.]

Maybe it's because the man was kind enough to throw his day away to help you when he found you back at the station and you don't think it's right to leave him in the dark, or maybe you just need to let everything you've bottled up through this whole crazy day out, but you find yourself talking to the man. As best you are able to, you explain your visit to the fortune teller, and what happened back at the station. In spite of how crazy it all seems, the man doesn't interrupt you and simply nods and gestures on occasion, urging you to continue. When you reach the end of your narration, he nods once again, slowly.

"Son...I do not believe you are lying to me, but I find this hard to believe. Living armors? Disembodies voices? Gale winds in a subway? It is all very strange...I don't know whether to trust your words, I'm sorry to say." There's an odd look on his face, halfway between confusion, bemusement, and hope. Of course, you should have seen it coming. It's too outlandish a tale...and yet, something stirs within you. You're telling the truth, you're absolutely sure of it. If only you could offer the man some proof...something solid, like this room's door...

...The world blurs for a moment, then returns to focus. When it does so, the door has changed: its edges are half-melted, and there is no doorknob on it anymore. After a moment of blinking in surprise, the man turns around and sees the door...and his expression changes to a sort of grim delight.

"Yes. It's...it's the truth. Amazing. *Excellent.*" There's a satisfied tone to his voice, even though he's now glancing around the room, warily. "It looks like you weren't lying. Finally. I was sure I'd picked something up, but you never can tell unless you see it in action." He pauses for a moment, then looks at you. "Think you can stand up?" You nod, and try to get out of bed.

"Good. Your clothes and possessions are inside that bag. Dress up and get ready to move, son." He says, pointing at a bag on top of another chair. Your clothes are still in terrible shape, but they're at least passable enough to wear them. As you put your coat on and finish getting dressed, the little water creature bounces out of the pocket and into the chair, looking at you questioningly. The man looks at it and smiles.

"Well. Well, well, well. It's been a while since I last saw an Empathic Embodiment. That's a Sprite, if I'm not mistaken...a rare sight these days. You sure are full of surprises." He comments, admiringly, as he wrestles with the door and frowns. "You went to work on this thing. We won't be able to make it out through here...we'll have to sneak out through the window, and quickly. Somebody may be on the lookout for signs of manifested power." Moving swiftly and purposefully, he opens the large window that oversees the hospital's parking lot, and steps through it. "Lucky thing we got a ground floor room, young man. We might have been forced to put on quite a show to get out of here otherwise." He helps you exit the room, and the Sprite follows by hopping after you. With a gesture, he beckons for you to follow him, and heads for the front gate. Once outside the hospital grounds, he begins to walk down the street at a brisk pace, muttering something under his breath. "Stay close to me. If anyone tries to stop us, they'll have to deal with me to get to you." You walk about four blocks before the man nods, calls one of the taxi cars passing by, and slips into it, letting out a sigh of relief.

"That should do it. Enough distance to make tracking harder, I think. Now, let's head for your home. Regardless of your talents, you won't be able to do much if you don't have a chance to nurse your wounds. Let me know when we get there" Home? How strange...still, you don't dare disagree with him. Though the man's demeanor remains cordial and friendly, there's a commanding quality to his voice now, like that of a person who is used to being obeyed. You give the driver your home's address and the car gets going. It is then that you notice that the man has his eyes closed and his fingers to his ears.

Soon enough, you arriver at the doorstep of your home. Tapping the man on the arm, he takes his fingers out of his ears, though his eyes remain closed. "Good. That was a shorter trip than I expected. Now, then..." He takes out a wallet as red as his coat and with practiced, fluid motions, produces a black card, with white letters embossed onto it and a red logo of a cane within a circle on the bottom right corner. He hands it over to you, and you notice that it's rather sparse - all that is written on it is "Ainkurn-Canning Ave., 6056".

"I apologize for this mess, but I need to get a few things ready. It's not often someone as unique as you is dropped onto my lap. Tomorrow, come to the address on the card as early as you can, and we shall discuss the matters we talked about before more thoroughly." For the briefest instant, the man opens his eyes and gives you a wink, his features softening from the thoughtful frown on his face during the ride to something more in line with the kindness and concern displayed at the hospital. "I look forward to it." Card in hand, you step off the car, which zooms off moments later, filling you with an uncanny feeling of déja vu. It's just like it happened when you went to visit the fortune teller...full of doubts, you fumble with the keys and step into your home. Outside, night falls, and all is quiet. What a strange day it's been...

Sorry Tom, I'm assuming that the hospital helped heal us more, and we should still get a good nights sleep to heal a little more.

(Sprite Theme 1, Bonds Between Boy and Familiar:

The Sprite follows you into your dwelling as you drop onto one of your living room's couches, and hops onto the table directly in front of it to look at you eye-to-eye. Of all the stuff that's happened to you this day, the little water being is probably the most extraordinary of them all. Living water that doesn't turn to vapor and sticks together...you wonder what it is that keeps it together. As you lose yourself in your thoughts, the Sprite lifts one of its short little arms and holds it forward. Hesitantly, you grab it with your own hand and shake it. It shifts under your grip, while staying distinctly solid and dry, a bizarre feeling to the touch that feels rather familiar nonetheless. As you hold hands with the sprite, you feel something flow down your arm, and its red eyes change to a faded grey, much like your own. You let go of the handshake, and the Sprite nods. Then, with a single bound, it jumps onto your lap and delicately wrap its arms around your chest (or tries to, as they really are too small to give a full hug). It lets out a prolonged, joyful cry and breaks off, hopping from the table to a couch, to another chair, and back to the table again. In spite of yourself, seeing the little creature hop around while making such a happy sound makes you smile. The next hour flies as you spend the time watching the Sprite changing shapes at a breakneck pace and showcasing its ability to control the water that composes it by changing its body into such things a tiny typhoon, a jelly-like cube, and even a watery spider. Soon afterward, you decide to go to bed. The Sprite follows you, and grabs on to your left arm as you drift into a peaceful slumber.

[Empathic Sprite has become Attuned to Main Character! New ability unlocked!]
[Bond with Empathic Sprite deepened! 20 XP earned!]
[Recovered from exhaustion of the day! HP increased to 65! MP restored to full!]

You wake up very early the next day, your clock reading 7:32 AM. The world is still dark, though lighting up by moments. You quickly get dressed and step out the house, the Sprite tucked safely within your backpack. You better get going and find the man. You need to know what the hell happened yesterday. The Ainkurn-Canning Avenue isn't all that far away, and you decide to walk to the address he gave you.
