So uh, I guess I'm into really huge into anime or anything, but I'm getting there. Slowly broadening my horizons and all that stuff. But one thing I'm having a terrible time finding, is there an easy place/reputable site to find when shows update? It's kind of a drag to watch like 18 episodes of Steins;Gate, come back weeks later to find it at 23, and have no idea when the finale is going to be brought up.

Ugh, maybe I should just stick to completed shows only.

That's a probably incomplete list of what I've actually watched. It's impossible to remember every single thing.

Basically, I'm trying to get through a lot of shows that apparently have great fanbases and such, while I diverge into various odd shows here and there.

Do you think any of this new stuff should take priority over me getting acquainted with the old stuff?

Just watch whatever interests you really, if it's finished or no. MAL has a list of top ranked anime so if you want to watch well liked stuff you can use that. (Most of the top ranked ones are finished series.) Each series also has a recommendations page for stuff that is similar. Though, this being the MAL userbase, a lot of them are dumb. A lot of them are good though. If you want to watch airing stuff, pretty much every season there will be at least a few shows you like as long as you aren't a stone cold cynic.

There are a lot of great shows out there you haven't seen. Just enjoy it while it lasts before you watch everything you're interested in and turn into a jaded old man.

I guess I'll recommend shows based on your Plan to watch list and what I like, and maybe other shows I could possibly recommend you to put on there

You seem to want to try different genres yet is also considered well liked, so I'll try to cover those bases

Obviously I can only talk about shows I've watched

What's on your Plan to Watch
Code Geass- constantly compared to Death Note due to the "battle of wits", also for both protagonists thinking of great plans. A bunch of people complain about R2 being a 'trainwreck" due to some events getting crazy though I think its great almost the whole wya

Kanon 2006- most people would recommend not watching the other Kanon since it's apparently a vastly inferior adaptation to 2006 overall. This is a romance drama series with big emphasis on the drama. It does have some slice of life and a little comedy. If you do end up liking this show or liked some parts but thought others were disappointing you can look up other KEY shows I'll talk about later

Cowboy Bebop- Personally I'm not a fan, but it is considered a classic anime, so you may like it. It's episodic, meaning there's no big plot throughout the series and many episodes have standalone small plots. There's a bunch of action, but also a bunch of episodes were the 4 characters just do random stuff.

Lucky Star- Heh, watching this will either have you complain that NOTHING HAPPENS or you may like it for the weird yet funny comedy. Interested to see what you think about this.

Samurai Champloo- People compare this to Bebop but obviously you haven't seen it yet. It's an episodic series (aka theres no BIG plot thats touched on every episode), but it has some cool comedy and action.


What's not on your Plan to Watch list

Azumanga Daioh- One of the most popular anime comedies ever. Every episode is just plain wacky yet fun, almost everyone I know who's seen it likes this series.

Clannad- You should watch Kanon 2006 before you watch it (if you really want to watch Kanon), since a lot of people consider this to be the same as Kanon 2006 but better. Good mix of comedy, drama, and romance.

Hajime no Ippo- I jujst recently finished this series but I really like it a lot and many people do as well. It's a series about BOXING. Don't let the high amount of episodes turn you off, the pacing is really good throughout the series and the animation and progression is good stuff.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni- At heart, Higurashi is a mystery series where a bunch of events happen and you can't really guess what's going on until you watch more. There are a bunch of comedic episodes but a lot of pretty violent stuff as well.

Kara no Kyoukai- The most interesting thing about this series is that's a series of MOVIES. There are 7 movies algother (two of them being 2 hours, the rest roughly 1 hour maybe a few one hour and half ones). One of the more particular thing about this series is of movies is that the first 5 movies do not happen in chronological order. It may be confusing to you, but the series has a interesting mix of mystery, action, drama, with a slight touch of romance.

Neon Genesis Evangelion- It's hard to describe this but basically picture this: what if in real life, adults forced young teenagers to pilot huge ass mecha. This shows the psychological efffects of it, though theres a bunch of interesting character development. The main character is pretty wimpy and annoys many people (I think the way he's portrayed is interesting though), so keep that in mind.

Right, I've heard a lot about Kanon, and since I didn't know what was what, I've placed both on my list. What exactly is the deal there between 2002 and 2006? Is it the same story, just different quality? I have no problem cutting 2002 if 2006 makes it obsolete.

I've been thinking of getting Lucky Star up as soon as I'm through with Umineko, so you may not have to wait too terribly long for that opinion. Though I don't really devote all too much time to watching, so don't expect it too quick. :D

From the brief description I see, Azumanga Daioh doesn't exactly seem my cup of tea, but I'm more than willing to give it a shot from all the reviews I'm seeing of people saying they were surprised by just how funny the show is.

I'm currently being quite intimidated by the tons of episodes that make up Gintama. I haven't watched an episode of that in quite some time, mostly because it's just easier to get into smaller series. I can always add a larger series on there, but the commitment is something I kind of have to look at there. (Though by that same merit, I've had no trouble going through the Gundam UC universe which is pretty long >_>)

I can't remember whether or not I've seen NGE or not. I feel like I've seen some episodes of it, but they must have been a long time ago.

2006 is vastly superior due to better art and more episodes (which allows them to properly cover the important arcs)

I have supposedly heard that Second Strike or something like that in much better, but when I have so many other shows to be watching, FMP was just pretty terrible. I may return to it at some point, but not sometime soon.

Well, as you can see from my rating, I lived DtB. When looking at the sequel parts, I saw absolutely nothing but people saying that they were nowhere near the quality of the first, and somewhat ruined the whole atmosphere of DtB as a whole. So I've been kind of scared to try it, because I like my opinion of DtB just fine where it is.

Second season is a step down from the first, but I thought the Gaiden OVAs were pretty fantastic as well. The OVAs take place in between both seasons so you don't have to worry about watching them out of chronological order.

beated Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger

Was (initially) disappointed at the lack of focus on Ippo himself but seeing people like Takamura, Miyata and Date get more screentime was need

Takamura's last fight in particular was quite good

Also beated Redline at the the Anime Club at my college. DIdn't really care for it.

The premise sounds alright and I'm not really that turned off by the art style even though it looks like it is for literal preschoolers. However, I don't think I have the time, energy, or motivation to get invested in another Gundam series right now. I'll add it to the queue of Gundam shows I eventually plan to watch.

Apparently this is a sequel of something I've never seen or heard of so uhhh. I doubt I'll even watch the first episode.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai
Some terrible romantic comedy series apparently about some females that don't have any friends so that lonely otaku will think they are pure and untainted aka complete social recluses like the people who will be buying the dakimakura and other assorted merchandise associated with this show such as a mousepad with a picture of an underage girl who wet her pants on it.

also this is based off a light novel so you know it's literally for middle schoolers XFD

Interest Level: Zero


Column I recap: I want to make a joke here but I'm constantly blocked by the sad reality that almost every other column on this chart is just as bad. Every punchline ends with me crying in the corner as I frantically wish that even one character half as manly as Bes Jordan or Char Aznable would make an appearance in even one of these subpar shows. Even though the total score for the first batch is 0, it may win by default just for having a Gundam series. . . Even if said Gundam series looks like it's going to be about Digimon tamers instead of mobile suit pilots or colony drops.

Mobile Suit Gundam AGE - I like every Gundam series I've seen (except ZZ lol) so I'm interested in this basically just because it's a Gundam series. I read when this was first announced that it would take place during three different “generations” or something. It would be interesting if that means it's going to have three stories going simultaneously in different points of the main dude's life like the synopsis here has. Otherwise, it doesn't sound too intriguing. Especially because of the horrendous character designs

I mean Gundam is all about manly dudes and hot chicks how am I supposed to read yaoi doujins based on this **** without getting arrested immediately?

Will I watch it??: yes cause it's gundam

Fate/Zero - I read two (out of four) of the novels and while they were alright, I wasn't much of a fan. The main problem, besides lack of porn, is that the fight scenes just... sucked. This should be remedied by animating them, especially when ufotable is doing it. So in theory, this show should be great. And I fully expect it to be my show of the season. Expect me to be upset when it disappoints.

Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam - Last Exile is a series I've always been sort of interested in but have still not watched. I'm not sure how related this is to the first series since I've read it's going to be a prequel but it apparently has a new cast and stuff. I'll wait to see what people are watching it say before I check this out or not.

Will I watch it??: were see

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai - At first, the synopsis made me think the main character was a girl. Would have been hot. Too bad this isn't the case and this will probably be some mediocre harem series I'll have to put up with Moggthegob raving about.

Will I watch it??: I'll give it a chance but won't hesitate to reverse atomic drop it
