I'm at Omega Ruins now (I just got the option to go fight Sin, but I've not traveled there yet). This appears to be an optional area of the game...but I'm stubborn and want to beat this place. This looks like the hardest area I've been to yet, and it's thrown several new enemies (including Great Malboros) at me since I opened two chests on the right side of its map. That banished soul or whatever's at the end of this is going to be frustrating.
Speaking of frustrating things fresh on the mind, I hated fighting Yunalesca.

It seems like FFX topics are the thing lately. I'll have to post a link to Besaid Island's theme song if this takes off so all you Besaid-haters take notice.
What are your HP totals, HaRRicH? Due to FFX's Sphere Grid level-up system I like to gauge where people are stats-wise by just having them tell me their HP. That usually gives me a good idea.
Grinding in the Omega Ruins will beef you up considerably, obviously.

Great Malboro's are the ****ing worst. It wouldn't be so bad if poison wasn't so ridiculously absurd. Everyone is hasted and confused and attacking each other -- but missing because of darkness -- and losing 2,500 HP a shot.
-- I'm too tired to drive anywhere, anyway, right now, do you care if I praise Black Turtle? Call me numbers.
Numbers are HP, parentheses are basic positioning on the Sphere Grid:
Tidus: 3120 (roughly thirteen moves from Quick Hit, though I can skip a lock to get there faster) Yuna: 1875 (just returned from Auto-Life to get Regen) Auron: 5071 (recently got Entrust and is now following Tidus's path to Slow) Lulu: 2980 (just got Doublecast) Wakka: 4218 (two moves away from Triple Foul) Kimahri: 3244 (ten moves from Flare) Rikku: 2560 (eight moves away from Full-Life, though I would need at least one more Level 4 Keysphere)
I have at least three spheres waiting to be used for all of them outside of Kimarhi and Rikku (both at zero), though I don't plan to use them until I better learn some of these enemies first and perhaps get more special spheres; a Tonberry gave me a Teleport Sphere, for example, and I'd certainly like some more like that!

As long as you always have someone in the frontline with First Strike equipped you can flee safely. Never walk around the Omega Ruins without either First Strike on a frontliner or Confuseproof + Berserkproof on an armour.
Also, the end game is designed to be played before the Omega Ruins (the hardest storyline dungeon is a bit easier than it, and the Omega Ruins' final boss is quite a bit stronger than the final storyline boss).

I know I don't have First Strike for anybody, and I think Kimarhi is my only character with that can avoid Berserk. I'll need to check my inventory more closely for anything to limit Confuse's power over me.
Does the game let me save and come back to the dungeon after beating it, or does it only let me save just before the last fight with no option to pick right up after that? I may try to finish this dungeon first anyway, but it'll be good to know my options!

Okay, as long as I can come back even after the game acknowledges I beat the game then I may just grind this out a little longer. I've gotta enjoy the goodies first though!
So, at this point in the game, assuming I went straight through the path of the story-line (remember, I just got the option to fight Sin from the Highwind), how much time left do I roughly have until I beat it?

Oh, and I'm not playing it because it's ten years old, thoguh it's as good of a reason as any. I've wanted to play it for awhile but never had a PS2 until late last year...and I made a deal with Leonhart for him to play Braid and me to play this.
The rest, as they say, is history...that led me to these goddamned Great Malboros.

OH I thought you meant beating Omega Ruins. I think there's a point of no return in FFX, but I honestly can't remember. I don't think it lets you save after the credits, and there's no NG+ or anything...
I'm looking forward to it (and really, any new move I haven't already learned). I really need to just complete some of these intended paths for my characters.

Turns out despite my preparations with current equipment, Great Malboros can still kill me by just appearing. I traveled far into the dungeon trying to find another save-point, too, so that sucks...
...are there more save-points than just the one in the beginning of Omega Ruins? I saw some teleport-like logos and found an elevator of sorts, but nowhere to save.

There's only one save point in the OR. Good to bring No Encounters equipment there if you want to explore deep. Although... I think if you can get to the second screen, which is not far past the lift, the randoms stop and you only encounter enemies that are visible (might well be wrong on that though).

For Great Molboros, just make sure you have someone in the frontline with First Strike, and that said person can either use, or switch to, someone with Provoke, Flee, or Summon (preferably not Flee so you can actually beat 'em, of course). They're really not much if you can avoid seeing Bad Breath used against a PC.

I've gotta get something with First Strike. I was hoping Wakka's weapon with Initiative would be enough, but it wasn't. Kimarhi still fell for Bad Breath, and Yuna wasn't in (I think she had something that was Confuse-proof).

I no longer have Return Spheres, so there goes that.
I finally beat one! I traveled a bit before rushing back and barely saved in time; about as soon as I could turn around after saving, it came. Yuna was able to survive long enough to get some Summons with over-drives out, and then I finished him with Wakka's Elemental Reels (fire). Whew.
Still not a fan!

Kotetsu534 posted... If you go to the Sin destination you will fight a few enemies, one of which will be called Sinspawn Genais. Steal from it to get Return Spheres.
Alternatively, kill a bunch of Black Elements (Which are random encounters in Omega Ruins anyway). Or if you want to go a bit overboard, bribe a Dark Element back in the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth for 3 of them. Though that costs 36000 gil.

There's always hope for better things in life. But you can't let anything, friend, lover, God himself, be your hope. You have to be your own hope.
I've been running away from the Black Elements with the fire-like Spirit because I don't know the best way to defeat them. Their immunity to sensors sucks and they take me out quickly when I don't take care of business early.
While I'm out of town, I'm gonna post links to all the enemies I can find on the FFX-Wiki in that area so I'll have 'em when I'm back:
Also, Jeff Zero, I ended up having Wakka move to Tidus's path after getting Triple Foul while Tidus was beside Quick Hit, so now they both have it...and yeah, I've been a fan so far!

I think I got a Return Sphere for winning the league-mode once, but that's a LOT of Blitzballing for one item. Not that I'm against playing more Blitzball, though...!

http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3492/eponaharr.jpg Nominate E P O N A.
the way blitz works is that the prize for a league/tournament gets set when you enter
not sure how the tournament system works(i think its generated randomly during the league) but save the game, if you enter and there's a tournament but not the prize you want, reset the game, reenter the blitz sphere and check again rinse and repeat until the prize you want is there
I'm back home and now see just how good Auron's Overdrive "Shooting Star" can be against them. This could be fun.
For the past two hours, my team's been grinding like mad ax-men, so now they're starting to look pretty good. I still need to work on armor though so I can be even better prepared against creatures like Great Malboros (I got lucky anyway, since Yuna only had Confuse Ward and still got confused; somehow Auron got out of it in time).
I'm also loving harassing enemies with Tidus/Wakka Quick Hitting them. Auron can't get it soon enough; I'm tempted to teleport him there now, but I've got him following Tidus's path right now so he can get Hastega first (and Life soon afterward).
