All this is, well its basically me watching a bunch of movies and giving them a rating and a few comments.

I'm basically gonna be watching films I've either already seen or have on my backlog, its nothing really complicated at all.

The Conformist

Director: Bernardo Bertolucci

I liked it, I generally like the director's movies and I like seeing this mix of french and Italian in my movies.

Good movie, I think people who are into war period movies, but don't necessarily care for action may like it. Its more on the intellectual side of things and the pacing is fairly slow, but that's a good thing here.

Rating: *****, yup top grade for this, would watch again.

Rome, Open City

Director: Roberto Rossellini

This was good, lots of unexpected stuff, good drama, effects are dated for today but plenty of emotion, this was unpleasant to watch due to how raw some of the scenes were which made the film all the more outstanding. I loved the film because of how horrifying it could portray some stuff.

Rating: *****, ya bruv, this was purty damn good.

The Leopard

Director: Luchino Visconti

This film looks good, real good, the costumes look fab, the scenery's beautiful, yeah, visually this is impressive and matches w/e hollywood could muster at the time. Now movies that look this good generally need a lot of other **** to go well otherwise the whole things looks like a shiny turd. But here yeah, you got some nice actors on form nice film.

Rating: *****, this was long but good.

Atlantic City, USA

Director: Louis Malle

French dude making american movies huh, sweet, lots of lemons in this and hey Burt Lancaster's in this as well, wooooo. Yeah, drugs, casinos and gangsters.

Rating: *****, Don't see a lot of french new wave directors branching out, but the results can be pretty satisfying.

Prizzi's honor

Director: John Huston

I love these types of movies, I like gangster movies and I like comedy, combined like this, what's not to like, well at least for me. This film had a lot of nice touches, it was really smart and slick with some smooth ice cool acting. The old dudes were good too.

Rating: *****, why can't we have more well thought out comedies likes this one, well maybe we need more Jack Nicholsons but w/e what exists is there to be enjoyed.

The Lavender Hill Mob

Director: Charles Crichton

Know why I keep saying Alec Guinness is my fav actor ever? This kind of movie is a good example as to why I consider him the best. Now of course I live not too far away from ealing so I'm totally biased on the works that came from that studio, but what we have here is a very good comedy.

Rating: *****, a classic and really short comppared to most movies, a real lot of fun watching this.

To be or not to be

Director: Ernst Lubitsch

Oh hi there comedy, why looks like I simply cannot get enough of you. Now talk about risque comedy, made in 1942 with so many nazi and hitler jokes? That Lubitsch touch is famous because of how exceptional and he's at his best here.

Rating: *****, I laughed when watching this......a lot.

Ninotchka

Director: Ernst Lubitsch

I liked to be or not to be more as a comedy, but in this film, the character of Ninotchka is swell. Shame Garbo vanished from hollywood so fast.

Mr Smith goes to Washington

Director: Frank Capra

I really do like Frank Capra, but if there's anyone I'm gonna like more here it's James Stewart, blahblahblah "phenomenal", "masterpiece", "amazing", "overused words of praise", nah that kind of language sorta cheapens the effect of what he did here. I'm a sucker for these moments and thats why I love the guys involved in this film.

Rating: *****. while some of the other 2 hour films on my list go by slowly due to their more methodical pacing, this one here is more engrossing. Then again, I'm seeing this as a lol euro, so maybe americans will see this movie as a piece of crap today who knows.

The man in the white suit

Director: Alexander Mackendrick

What I've always loved about ealing studios is how they can always pack in so much quality in such a short amount of time. This film really isn't very long at all, but what we get out of it is more than enough.

Rating: *****, I actually don't know who I'd side with in this film, the "villains" actually have a tremendous case here.

Cagney may have liked to sing and dance more, but I like him better in the roles that have made him famous, notably these gangster movies.

The Asphalt Jungle

Director: John Huston

You could tell really early on Marilyn Monroe had some star potential, looking back on her career she probably died before declining, but what we got during her career was more than good enough. This is a film noir/caper with one certain lengthy scene lasting 11 minutes that holds your attention for its detail.

Rating:*****, this is a very strong genre where you turn crud into gold, here they had a little more to work with and nailed the formula down.

Dolls

Director: Takeshi Kitano

Gotta love Kitano's philosophy of less is more at times, he doesn't always abide by this rule, but he can use it so effectively. The colours used in this film are a real hit though.

Rating:****, not the best Kitano film nor is it my favourite, but it really had a lot of strong points, guys go watch boiling point and violent cop too.

Side note: this chick is in this film
