I would skip the first season entirely.

And stop a couple episodes early.

Clannad is pretty good. But After story is a real top tier anime.

But I tend to count them as like the same thing.

Nothing really comes to mind. I've heard great things about Clannad, though. And I'm not really in the mood for another action anime right now. I don't care about a slower pace or anything like that, especially if it's as sad and moving as people claim it is.

I want to be touched :D

Skipping the first season wouldn't leave you confused... it would just leave you without any attachment to the characters as you start season 2.

For what it's worth, I haven't seen After Story but I didn't like Clannad. I also wasn't moved or touched by it. And it's not like I'm completely insensitive to emotional things or something - I found Groundhog Day to be very moving, for example.

But it can't hurt to give it a try!

Clannad's first season is your standard romantic comedy harem done very, very well.

Its second season is amazing in its own right, though I can see why lots of people wouldn't like the ending. Still, definitely worth watching if you're the least bit interested.

Clannad is probably my favorite anime that I have ever watched.
Season one is very good and I really enjoyed it (except for Fuko), but season two is even better and is an absolute must to watch.

Also, watch the sub, please. While the dub isn't terrible, it ruins some important characters with horrible voices such as Kyou and Tomoyo.
