Just got the new issue of GamesTM, and there's an article about the Ys series, including an interview with Toshihiro Kondo. There's no concrete news, but a few choice snippets:
1) There's considerable demand in Japan for new releases of IV and V, which Falcom are 'definitely considering'. This could mean they finally get official English versions 2) Falcom are keen to do something for the series 25th anniversary in 2012 3) There is an Ys game currently in development, but they're not telling us anything about it
So, fingers crossed we'll be seeing Adol again soon...

SuperAngelo128 posted... I've never played a Ys game before
wheres a good place to start (preferrably a game actually released in English)
recommended order would be original release of the games and try to hold off on any remakes until you've played the original. and sadly no Ys V unless you don't mind playing in Japanese. Also play the TCD versions for the first 4 games.
Ys Book 1+2 (TCD) Ys III: Wanderers from Ys (TCD) Ys IV: Dawn of Ys (TCD)(non-canon game, but it's so good it's a crime not to play it) Ys IV: Mask of the Sun (SNES) Ys VI: The Ark of Naphistim (PS2, but use a code to set it to PC mode) Ys Seven (PSP)
Ys Origins on the PC if you can figure out how to play it, but it's a prequel and doesn't star Adol so it's not too essential unless you want some more history on the land of Ys.
then notables remakes worth playing
Ys I+II Chronicles (PSP) Ys: Oath in Felghana (PSP) (remake of III which is was the Zelda II of the series and made it more like the rest of the Ys games)
What makes the PSP version of Ys I and II not worth playing instead of the TCD version?
Nothing, they're fantastic remakes and pretty much essential to play. The point Shine was making was that it's best to play the original versions before the remakes. Get a feel for where the series started before playing through the modern incarnations.
But yes, definitely play the PSP versions. They're big improvements (especially Oath, because Ys III was pretty bad), expand the dialogue and plot a lot, and are generally fantastic games.
