Amn first. ToB is the expansion and doesn't work well standalone, plotwise.

Is there any specific reason why people misspell Baldur's Gate so often here?

You probably want slightly higher phys stats. Beyond that looks pretty good.

STR: You can skimp on this. Try for at least 10, though. Since all the good fighters already have good str and belts bite, you'll can put on a belt to up your str. It's also not horribly critical early b/c you'll have spells if you absolutely need to hit.
DEX: As high as possible.
CON: 16.
INT: 12 is sufficient. Arcane magic users don't get bonus spells based on int. It affects scribe chance, but you're going to be copying low level dime-a-dozen spells and probably on a difficulty level where the scribe chance is 100%. If you're a mage it also affects your max level spell, but it's like... 5 or 6 for a bard. I think it helps your lore, but your lore should be pretty high and identify is not exactly a hard spell to learn.
WIS: Skimp. Worthless on a blade.
CHA: Skimp. You almost immediately get access to an item that gives you 18 charisma.

Are you pausing your game to input commands? Baldur's Gate IIs learning curve is kinda steep if you're not used to games of this type.

i don't even know if i have commands to input. or i guess i do i just don't know how to access them. i just would click on things and my party would slash at them until they were dead. i'll try again soon.

so i'm starting to figure this game out.

can anything bad happen while resting? like random encounters or something? or does something bad happen if you spend too much time in a dungeon, or if you just take too long in the game in general?

There is no time limit on the main part, but some side quests and such have them.

What do you mean anything bad while resetting?

well in D&D, which this game basically is in video game form, there's nothing stopping enemies from attacking you while you sleep. if the DM think you're taking too much advantage of the rest mechanic he'll punish you for it. is there anything in this game that discourages me from resting after any significant battle?

Oh

you can be awakening by enemies, but it seems to be semi random. If you need to rest then do so. But if you think you're good for another encounter then you might want to just go for it

alright, that's all i was wondering. knowing that means I'll be a bit more conservative with resting, and that I'll try to save a couple spells/abilities for when I rest, just in case.
