Never underestimate the power of stupidity in numbers. ~War13104 Never stoop to the level of idiots. They will drag you down and beat you with experience.
I summon Bahamut to put the smackdown on the thing, and it barely does any damage. Then when Bahamut goes away, the f***ing thing stands up to wield its weapon thing and COMPLETELY FREAKIN' HEALS ITSELF.
UGHGUUGHGUUGHHHH.

Again, don't fight those things right now. You're gonna be there for a while, so after enough time leveling up, you'll be better equipped to handle them.
You're almost to the point where I stopped playing. I can't believe you might actually finish the game! Here's a tip, get Pain. I haven't done it yet, and I really wish I did, because I'm having way too hard of a time beating a particular enemy and I hate grinding so I just stopped playing instead.

I usually don't have a problem with grinding. When I was playing FFVII, the one door boss in the temple was kicking my ass, so I spent like an hour or so just battling a bunch of enemies in a single room, got like 10 more levels, and defeated the boss in a few seconds.
I was overpowered the rest of the game. It was awesome.

I just upgraded stuff as it came along. There's not one particularly great weapon out there or whatever. Although I will say that if you want to use Vanille as a Saboteur, her Belladonna Wand is a great thing to upgrade because it increases the success of her Saboteur spells, if I'm remembering correctly.
But Pulse is a great place to get the stuff you need to upgrade weapons, too.

Opening up? So the field? That's the only part the game "opens up" and they do a ****** job of it. You run right through there and the game goes back to how it's been.

Maybe. The difficulty spike in the enemies has kind of discouraged me though. Like, I understand there being huge enemies you can't defeat in the field that you can run past, but there's a point a little bit later, when you're in a cave or something, the path splits into two, and you come upon a door with a huge machine boss thing that trounced me in just a few seconds.
That pisses me off.
And then it takes away my motivation to play the game.
I know it's an optional enemy, but STILL. It shouldn't be able to tear me up that freakin' fast.

Right, we're on Stage 8, and he doesn't have Haste anywhere to be seen. Bravery and Faith are the only ones left to obtain right now for his Synergist role.

If I'm just leveling up, what should my party be? You mentioned SYN/SAB/SEN, so should I have maybe Fang as a SAB, Snow as a SEN, and Sazh as a SYN? Would that be the best? I think Fang is a better SAB than Vanille, except that Vanille has Poison, but that's about it.

Honestly, unless you're planning on fighting some super huge enemies, you can manage with Lightning/Fang/Sazh since they have everything you need (even though Light isn't a great Medic). If you just use them for leveling up with stuff on your level and gradually work yourself up, you should be fine.
But when you decide to fight that Juggernaut, yeah, Snow/Sazh/Vanille is the way to go.
Not all of the missions. The top tier missions, for sure. A good chunk of the missions are doable in Chapter 11. Some of them even result in short cutscenes when you beat them, which you can't see if you beat them after Chapter 11.

I don't know if you're against this sort of thing, but you can find videos of people beating the missions on Youtube if you want to see how other people do it.
Here's a video of Mission 2. All that guy does is basically summon Odin and beast on them, and it works.
I've played and beat all Final Fantasy games except XI. I quit in the middle of this one (where you're at) cause it was too ridiculous and frustrating.
Well I've played VI, VII, a very small amount of VIII, IX, and X, and I only beat VII and X. The others, I gave up on at some point because they were boring to me.
Somehow, I haven't given up on this game. It's got some major issues, but I'm enjoying it enough to keep going, oddly.
