Welp, my partner is off to California for a couple weeks, so I have the place to myself for awhile. That's always fun. I went to the gym earlier, nothing special. Did some yard work, and since it's summer and I'm in Vegas, that sucked. How was your day?

It was pretty sweet. Chatted it up with a friend I haven't talked to in years and amazingly it wasn't awkward at all. Then I did some dishes (which was lame as I hate washing dishes), ate some Taco Bell, beat a very nostalgic PS1 game called Jade Cocoon, and hung out on GameFAQS the rest of the day.

It's in the same ilk as Pokémon, Digimon, and Monster Hunter but the major thing that sets it apart is that you can merge the monsters you capture to create beasts to your own specifications and of your own design.

Speaking of designs, one of the art directors also worked on Princess Mononoke, so the characters are done in that style. The VA work is interesting. Nothing offensive but some of the cast sounds a bit odd. I'm pretty sure this game was made back before the art of voice acting was perfected. Anyway...

The plot is based on a Japanese folktale that I think is called (forgive me if I'm a bit off) Tamamayu Matagenari or something. I don't want to spoil the plot so I'll leave it at that.

It's actually a very short game (~20 hours), but the post-game sidequest lasts forever- literally. It's an eternal corridor with purportedly over 999 different floors.

So if you like playing God, Japanese folklore, Ghibli-style art and/or a game that literally never ends Jade Cocoon is for yooooou!
