Yeah, keep Boco there, even if you never plan on using him (although he's pretty good, with the cheap and easy Choco Cure)

Mainly that he has a way bigger move range than any of the standard characters, so he can ferry people all over the map

This becomes more useful once you get some Black and Red Chocobos (a result of those eggs you end up with for keeping Boko on the roster). Black Chocobos can fly. Red Chocobos have Ignore Height, which acts like an infinite Jump stat

Zirekile Falls

I loaded up the battle, realized that Gafgarion turned already, reset the game.

Got into the battle again after stripping all his gear. Yeah I know it's cheap but I don't care. I want to keep his stuff. The battle was really easy once again, and I'm sure it would be even with fully-powered Gafgarion. Delita is just too strong.

Bartz and Delita are glad to see each other again. I guess Larg wants Ovelia dead, but Delita kidnapped her to save her? Or frame Goltana? Or something, he won't say. But Gafgarion runs away and the Hokuten knights are easily dispatched. It looks like we are going to see Count Draclau because he is neutral. Bartz is an enemy to the Hokuten now.

Delita left Ovelia with Bartz even though he said he couldn't, so whatever. I'm sure this will make sense later.

After Zirekile Falls:

Bartz Lv 9 Squire
Belmont Lv 9 Chemist
Heinlein Lv 9 Knight
Reeve Lv 10 Archer
Evelyn Lv 4 Squire
June Lv 3 Chemist
Scarlet Lv 3 Chemist
Rad Lv 8 Squire
Alicia Lv 8 Knight
Lavian Lv 8 Knight
Boco Lv 10 Chocobo
Ovelia Lv 6 Princess
Agrias Lv 11 Holy Knight

I won't be satisfied until my guests go away, but I know that won't happen anytime soon. Agrias is so annoying.

"Got into the battle again after stripping all his gear. Yeah I know it's cheap but I don't care. I want to keep his stuff."

I might be wrong, but I think you automatically get his stuff back after the battle anyway. In fact, if you don't mind the extra difficulty it results in, you can get two copies of it if you send him into battle with the best stuff possible and then steal it off him - it glitches and gives you the copies you stole, plus the copy he took into battle with him.

You are correct. There's nothing you can really abuse at this point in the game by duplicating though.

What you CAN do is get him to Level 90+ Ninja by Zirekile (requires being bored out of your mind at Aruguay, but it is possible) and then Catch all the items he throws at you. Teach him Throw Knight Sword and you can get Excaliburs in Chapter 2. Totally impractical, but amusing.

Only stat is Speed. Otherwise, Martial Arts and Attack UP will increase your chances I believe. There's... actually very little in the game worth stealing unless you start to overlevel so I wouldn't be too concerned if you aren't using Thieves.

I didn't see this topic until now though! I'll try to keep my mouth shut for the most part. =P

Fort City Zaland

Mustadio running from the bad guys, oh noes. Looks like I have to save him. My first try here resulted in me offering to save Mustadio and him being killed in the first turn, causing me to fail. My second try I choose the objective of killing all enemies, which made things considerably easier. Is there any reason why you would choose the more difficult objective?

I took the guys with me again, and it wasn't too difficult. Reeve jumped on the wall and was able to snipe the mages fairly easily, and Agrias ran outside the wall using Stasis Sword. Bartz spammed Cheer Up for the most part, and I had the guys use accumulate a couple times to get strength up.

Mustadio is running from Bartz - er, Bart Company, who wants something of his. He won't say what, but Ovelia trusts him for some reason and wants to take him with us. I would give his gun to somebody else, but it looks like all he can use are guns, so I'll let him keep it.

Bartz eavesdrops on Agrias and Ovelia, but neither seem to care that he does. I guess Alma and Ovelia were in the same convent or whatever. Too bad Bartz is hiding his identity.

After Fort City Zaland:

Bartz Lv 10 Squire
Belmont Lv 10 Chemist
Heinlein Lv 10 Knight
Reeve Lv 10 Archer
Evelyn Lv 4 Squire
June Lv 3 Chemist
Scarlet Lv 3 Chemist
Rad Lv 8 Squire
Alicia Lv 8 Knight
Lavian Lv 8 Knight
Boco Lv 10 Chocobo
Ovelia Lv 6 Princess
Agrias Lv 12 Holy Knight
Mustadio Lv 10 Engineer

It gives a temporary boost for that battle of 10 brave to all your units (2 of which carries over into a permanent boost).

It's a similar case for saving Boco and Algus. Saving Boco gives you a Brave bonus, and NOT saving Algus gives you a Brave bonus. If you choose not to save Algus and the battle at Fort Zeakden lasts for two rounds, Algus will make a comment and Ramza will lose the bonus Brave (rest of the party keeps it though).

It's pretty minor stuff though. I think you still get a Brave bonus if you choose the other options -- it's just 5 points instead of 10.

Bariaus Hill:

I took advantage of some of the propostions, and got into a few random battles as a result. Brought along the girls to get their levels up, which worked out pretty well. The next fight saw more people trying to capture Mustadio, and wow, Agrias is zealous to defend him. A lot more eager than I would be, that's for sure.

This battle was pretty easy. I gave Reeve Arrow Guard so nobody would bother him while he provides support fire, and Bartz is now a chemist so he can throw healing items around. All I have him do otherwise is Cheer Up, so it's not a big deal. It looks like enemies that are charging for an attack take more damage, and that allowed me to make easy work of the archers. I had forgotten that summon magic only affects enemies(or allies, depending on the summon). That's useful.

Cardinal Draclau is an old man and I'm pretty sure he's up to something. He talks about the Zodiac Brave Story and the stones that are legendary. I think Mustadio has one of those. I am leaving the girl guests behind to go take care of business in Goug. Fun times.

After Bariaus Hill:

Bartz Lv 12 Chemist
Belmont Lv 11 Wizard
Heinlein Lv 11 Monk
Reeve Lv 12 Thief
Evelyn Lv 7 Archer
June Lv 5 Chemist
Scarlet Lv 5 Chemist

Zigolis Swamp

I didn't waste any time in running into the swamp to thrash some undead. Monk + accumulate a couple times = broken. Heinlein was striking monsters for 100-160 damage, which made this battle quite easy. Mustadio used Seal Evil to petrify a couple ghosts, but not before Evelyn got put to sleep, making my attempts to level her quite futile.

Didn't take long to win, and I continued on to Goug.

Slums in Goug

Mustadio wants to meet later! Bet you anything that means he gets captured! Oh look, I was right. Rudvich says he'll trade Mustadio for the stone, which is S*** of course, because now he's going to have us killed.

Lucky for me, this one has plenty of enemies who use charge time, which I take advantage of for massive damage. I took Belmont, Evelyn, Heinlein, and Reeve, and I must admit we kicked ass. The one summoner who hit with his staff for like 55 was the only one who put up much of a fight.

Afterward, we talked to Besrodio and Mustadio reveals he's not as stupid as he looks. He gave away a fake stone. Now we are going to save Agrias and Oveila because they are in danger and women so I guess the game is saying they cannot save themselves... although pretty sure Agrias can kick everyone's ass.

Delita is waiting in Warjilis and he's all like "I have ears everywhere and you have no chance" so Bartz is like "ok I'm still going to do the right thing" which makes sense cuz he has nothing to lose and Ovelia is a princess and maybe she's cute.

Meanwhile, the bad guys are plotting. Gafgarion is all badass and makes the other bad guys look like idiots. Draclau tells Gafgarion to make a trap for the good guys using the girl, and Rudvich gets pissed because he sucks. When Rudvich starts *****ing, Draclau takes him out (offscreen, which may or may not have been used to good effect). Who would have figured that a guy whose name is an anagram for "Dracula" would turn out to be villainous!

Bariaus Valley

Agrias is being chased by Lionel's knights! Looks like she escaped but Ovelia was caught. I guess I'm in another battle with that woman driving me crazy.

I played through this battle twice, because I wasn't satisfied with the first time I beat it. The first time I rashly rushed into the fight and didn't plan much. I took the 3 guys and Evelyn with me. Most of them units died without doing much damage except Belmont, and I spent the rest of the battle throwing potions and phoenix downs trying to keep everyone alive while Agrias spammed Stasis Sword. I eventually won, but not before using a ton of phoenix downs and not getting much exp.

I reset and played the map again, and this time I played a little smarter. Heinlein and Reeve took the far side of the river, and Reeve successfully charmed the female archer to fight for us. I had Evelyn focus on getting to the hill so she could make use of the range bonus, and Belmont made effective use of Fire 2. His high faith/11 magic power makes him quite deadly.

After finishing the fight, Agrias tells us that Ovelia is to be executed, so off we go to take care of that.

After Bariaus Valley:

Bartz Lv 13 Chemist
Belmont Lv 13 Wizard
Heinlein Lv 13 Monk
Reeve Lv 13 Thief
Evelyn Lv 9 Archer
June Lv 5 Chemist
Scarlet Lv 5 Chemist
Rad Lv 8 Squire
Alicia Lv 8 Knight

Level means very little in FFT. The only times you'll notice if you're underleveled is when you get so underleveled you're several points of Speed behind the enemies. This makes things difficult just since they get so many more turns than you do. If you get stuck somewhere, gaining 2-3 levels isn't really going to make a difference for the most part. Abilities are far more important, and you haven't posted too many details, but you're not having trouble so presumably things are fine.

That being said, your level is normal for where you're at, in my opinion anyway.

Golgorand Execution Site

I go back Warjilis to stock up on some stuff and get in a random battle. After that, it's time to go into another notorious battle (if I remember correctly). I remember this battle being incredibly frustrating, but I hope I'm not mixing it up with that similar battle in Valkyrie Profile: CotP(also at an execution site, I think).

The party arrives at the fight in the nick of time! Or so it would seem. Actually, the princess is a fake and we triggered Gafgarion's trap card! This is a 5 on 9 fight very much not in Bartz's favor. I have Bartz, Belmont, and Heinlein in my first squad, with Evelyn and Reeve in my second squad. My first idea was to have Evelyn take the high ground, but realized it would be safer if I grouped together. Got lucky at the start with a time mage casting slow at Evelyn and had Evelyn move next to Gafgarion. The spell missed her and hit him, allowing her to get away from his relentless attacks. Evelyn has auto-potion which helped a little with this.

I had Reeve go up-top and attack the time mages, but he only managed to take one out before he took too much damage and had to flee. Gafgarion used his broken night sword attack to KO him on the stairs, and proceeded to do so every time I phoenix downed him. The remaining time mage wandered around doing not much.

I only had Heinlein use accumulate a couple times but he still felt like a beast ripping through any unit not a knight. He started out with Belmont taking care of the knights on the ground level, which took a couple turns, but Fire 2 was amazing enough and Belmont used auto-potion. Heinlein was equipped with counter, which was put to especially good use near the end when the last knight(the one that starts on the top level) attacked him and he did a critical counter for 230HP, OHKO. He then attacked an archer for OHKO, got a crit on Gafgarion for OHKO, and the last time mage fell to Evelyn's arrows.

The battle wasn't too difficult, but I must admit I had some luck on my side. After the fight we see Delita working with Draclau and the knight Vormav. I saw that guy earlier in Dorter, and I'm guessing he's a big bad. They tell Ovelia that she's not a real princess but they faked it because they don't want the Atkascha family to have the throne. It's a conspiracy or something and they are trying to use everyone. Looks like everyone is evil in this game, which I don't mind. They can all die and stuff.

After Golgorand Execution Site:

Bartz Lv 14 Chemist + guts
Belmont Lv 15 Wizard + item
Heinlein Lv 15 Monk + basic skill
Reeve Lv 15 Thief + basic skill
Evelyn Lv 10 Archer + basic skill
June Lv 6 Chemist + basic skill
Scarlet Lv 5 Wizard + item
Mustadio Lv 12 Engineer + charge
Agrias Lv 12 Holy Knight + white magic
