Bervenia Free City

Meliadoul is out to avenge her brother, Izlude. Of course she doesn't listen when Bartz tries to explain the truth.

This battle took me a couple tries, as I tried to take everyone on at first. Unfortunately, Meliadoul is broken in that she has an attack that is like Battle Skill + damage + long range + never misses(I think). Who thought THAT would be a good idea? After getting massacred a few times, I just directed my wrath on Meliadoul, and took her out in 2 rounds, ending the fight.

I took June with me instead of Evelyn, for Protect. Wasn't really necessary, but who cares.

Ran into a random cutscene in Goug Machine City with some little sphere thing with Mustadio and his dad. I was wondering if they would ever show up again.

Oh hey that reminds me. There's an obscure Ch2 cutscene that you can find in the Brave Story's cutscene list, and nowhere else; I think it's unlocked after your first visit to Goug Machine City. It's the bit where Besrodio tells Mustadio to take the stone and run. You don't get to see it when you recruit Musty because I guess he's supposed to be mysterious, and you don't get to see it when it's unlocked because I guess the game designers figured they'd done enough flashbacks already. But it exists.

Mighty Sword techniques are indeed unevadable, although they only work if the target has equipment that they can break.

I have some other piece of equipment that does that, forgot what it is. I'm not using it because it just seems too broken.

And yeah I saw that cutscene when I was fooling around with Brave story. I thought it was weird that it never shows that.

Hm, there are Angel Rings which are store-bought and give you Initial: Reraise. This is a bit different from Chantage, which will revive you continuously throughout the fight (the Angel Ring will work once, then expire).

But yeah, it's pretty stupid.

Ah, Angel Ring. That's right. This playthrough I haven't stolen much, but I probably will focus on getting uber gear or whatever next time I play.

Finath River

A battle with a bunch of monsters. In case random battles weren't enough, there are also scripted battles against pathetic creatures. Luckily, this is a good opportunity to level up the girls, stragglers as they are. Didn't take long to obliterate them. Now it's on to Zeltennia!

You don't really get any uber gear by stealing, unless you're ridiculously overleveled. Steal is pretty useless as a consequence.

Church outside the town

Bartz is praying at the church, and Delita shows up to talk. Apparently he's been placed within the Nanten so he can kill Goltana and Orlandu. There is a plot to kill Larg and Bartz's brothers as well. However, Delita says that he isn't working for the Church, and that means he will kill Bartz if he has to? That's not really the thing to say if you want to convince Bartz you aren't with the Church. Delita wants to save the princess so he won't go with Bartz. Whatever. Zalmo is back.

Outside the church, Delita decides that since he was seen with the heretic he has to kill Zalmo. I get to fight with piece of **** Delita on my team, hooray.

I took my main 5 for this fight, and it was a breeze. Bartz climbed the tower and sat in the corner to use his bow, while the rest stayed on ground level and fought it out. Delita didn't help much, sadly. He just kinda walked around and used his swordskill.

After killing Zalmo, Delita asks where Bartz is going. Bartz, like a fool, tells Delita his plans to talk to Orlandu to take the church down. You know, Delita's boss. Then a girl shows up and Delita goes on about how he trusts her. I guess she is sent from the church too. She said that the fighting is about to begin at Fort Bethla, so Bartz is off to stop the bloodshed. Balmafula berates Delita for using his friends. Good girl!

That's also a fun level to use Ignore Height on, since you get to bound like 20 panels up and land right next to Zalmo

Yeah, pretty much. There are a few cases in the story where enemies will have better equips than are available to you but most of the time they're only one checkpoint ahead of you, so if you do steal you'll gain a whopping 10 HP for two fights before you can buy it on your own. Random battles scale with your level though, so if you overlevel they'll have better equips than you can buy, and then you can steal them.

Bed Desert

Some guy named Balk is spreading poison in the desert so the troops will be poisioned and will die in battle or something. This was another very short battle of "Kill the leader" as the leader steps out in front leaving himself wide open to attack. I killed him on the second round without much trouble.

Orlandu is arrested on suspicion of treason, and taken to the dungeon. Looks like the church wants him there so he will be easy to assassinate. Delita shows up once again to show how treacherous he is.

South Wall of Bethla Garrison

How ironic that Bartz decides to use Orlandu as the keyword to get in... a day earlier and that would have worked. I checked out both levels and found the South wall to be much easier than the north one. The enemies are more spread out and knights are less troublesome than Lancers. My battle on the north wall did not turn out well.

I had good luck in taking out the Ninja right away and the archers didn't last long after that. The two knights in the back were easily outrun and I took my time with healing and retreating at the right times.

Meanwhile, the Hokuten are ravaged by the mosfungus poison. Zalbag continues to shine with ace lines like, "Hey, get a grip!" Dycedarg and Zalbag run over to Larg who has also been poisoned. Dycedarg kills Larg... I wonder if he is the "Delita" of the Hokuten? He asks Zalbag to frame a Nanten assassin for the kill.

Zalbag clearly is just following along with his brother. I wonder what he will end up doing?

In front of Bethla Garrison's Sluice

Bartz wants to turn the battlefield into a marsh/river by opening the floodgates. This battle took me a few tries. I took the guys and Evelyn, and put her with Reeve on the far side. Reeve had no problem taking out the wizards with his two swords, and Evelyn got the archer. Luckily those knights just stand there and let me kill them.

Bartz died, but Belmont brought him back with a phoenix down. Easy battle. Opened the sluice, and watched the water come out. After that, Bartz went to the dungeon to rescue Orlandu, and for some reason Balmafula came too. Orlandu the Overpowered joined, and the party leaves to get Alma.

Another scene where Delita murders Goltana and some guy pretending to be Orlandu. Balmafula is like "Bartz escaped" and Delita said that's according to plan. What is that bastard up to now...
