Started out a little slow but once it picked up, they flipped on the cruise control and kept a healthy pace all the way through the end. Mia Goth is gorgeous and sensuous and does a great job, as do all the actors really.

Only gripes - they didn't really explore the themes too much. I started wondering about whether he was the original James or not, they actually have a scene discussing that which you would think would be setting everything up for later, and then ... they kinda drop it in favor of a more subtle approach. I guess in typing this I came to appreciate the ending a bit more.

I thought it an interesting critique of affluent tourist culture.

I feel they explored the cloning thing pretty well. I think it was pretty clear we weren't following the same guy the whole time (like at one moment his face is hurt and then it isn't). And I personally think one clone went home but the clone (or real guy) that had committed the horrible acts couldn't live with himself and decided he didn't deserve to go home.

That's probably true and I probably missed some details like that.

I like your theory - mine was probably the more obvious route, that he saw his name on the boarding pass and didn't recognize himself any more as James and decided to stay at the resort, sort of like a ghost haunting the place where he died.

Also I just really, really, really kept expecting it to go a different direction, where he would get in trouble with the rich cool kids but his wife was going to cut his access to the account and he was just going to get executed himself... Probably way more obvious though >_>

Cronenberg being Cronenberg. I like Possessor a lot more.

Not my cup of tea and tbh except for Jeff Goldlum's The Fly, neither are any other cronenberg movies. The father or the son. They both have that weird subdued tone that refuses to spike and just sort of ends.

His movies are almost exactly like his dad's, which is refreshing because he's not some other nepo baby loser getting into the industry with no talent on board, but not one of them have been defining home runs like Scanners, Videodrome, or The Fly either.

Maybe they're way too high concept and longer than they should be, idk.

Added, thanks. I was on the fence about adding it, the description made it sound rather disgusting and since it's one of his earlier movies I had some doubts.

I don't know why I'm being so picky anyway, I watch a looooot of dumb shit.

That was easily the worst most insufferable part of the movie lmfao good god. Sounded like a cat in the rain. Im not a huge mia goth fan and its weird how shes always sexualized in her roles.

Tonight's viewing was "Come True", about a young woman who signs up for a sleep study and gets a little more than she bargained for. Shit was definitely creepy and unnerving but in a much slower and subconscious way than Infinity Pool.

The movie definitely succeeded at basically being one long ass dream, except without any clear starting point and absolutely no clear ending. I've been reading different interpretations of it afterwards and everyone's theories are all over the place.

This. I've seen a few of David's biggest movies and they're all borderline Italian in how nonsensical and boring they are. Junior's movies are at least a bit prettier but are exactly the same. I don't think I'll be exploring anymore of their filmographies.

Just finished Possessor. It had some really awesome effects here and there, but just as many kinda... throwaway effects that *added* to the effect but ultimately felt like something from an Fx made-for-TV special at the same time. Hard to describe that. Also I liked how a lot of the scenes transition, it just felt unnatural or premature or choppy compared to other movies.

On the other hand... the movie is mean and nasty but I was hoping for more the whole time. More... exploration of this loss of self, more of what it means to be lost in another person's mind and body, more of what it meant for the other agent to take over the kid and why did they choose the kid and not the husband but probably because he has weaker will... just more of what happened period. She failed the mission to kill the guy and he didn't look half bad for getting beaten nearly to death and having his teeth and eye ripped out, but what happens to her now? Why would she stay loyal to this company that just used her to kill her family? Maybe the family was even the target the whole time?

Too many gotdang questions and not enough answers also who even is her employer goddamn.

Omg just realized what if the family in Possessor was fake all along and they just had them for an emergency pull out.

weeb, I'd say these movies are more pyshcological thriller with some cruelty mixed in. Not straight up torture, though a few scenes do drag on a little longer, moreso just real and shocking.

No, it's more of a psychological thriller about rich people getting away with crimes.
