Welcome to the 2023 edition of Most Evil Fictional Character, a single-elimination tournament to determine the most evil fictional character of all time!

-First and foremost, YOU MUST BOLD YOUR VOTE FOR IT TO COUNT. The reason for this is that these topics encourage a lot of discussion and debate, and it helps me to distinguish a vote from simple discussion if all votes are bolded. So, I state again, ALL VOTES MUST BE BOLDED FOR THEM TO COUNT. I reserve the right to be lenient in early topics if people just aren't getting it, but for the most part, IF YOUR VOTE ISN'T BOLDED, IT WON'T COUNT.

-You must vote for which of the two characters you honestly believe to be the more evil of the two. You can determine this via any method you like, use your own morals and judgement, read all the arguments made to determine your choice, or however you choose to make your pick, but you must only vote for the one you truly believe is the most evil. This isn't a death battle, or a popularity contest. You're voting ONLY for the most evil character out of the two choices presented.

-While on that subject, remember that because this isn't a death battle or a fighting tournament, do your absolute best to consider the two characters as if their power levels were equal (either the weaker character brought up to the level of the strongest, or vice versa, or both if you want to consider both possibilities). Therefore, just because, for example, one of the characters blew up a planet and the other one merely kicked a puppy, doesn't necessarily mean the planet killer is more evil than the puppy kicker. Consider the characters as if they have the exact same capabilities and what they might do in that scenario.

-You can make any arguments, debates, etc. you want in this topic. Discussion is STRONGLY encouraged, a fun debate about which of the two characters is most evil is exactly what these topics are for. Just don't make it personal, no insults or flaming, keep things civil even if you disagree. Also, no vote rallying, if you want to encourage people to vote for your character you need to at least make some semblance of an argument as to why, even if it's just "Character X did (really dastardly thing), I can't believe no one's voting for them!"

-Voting will continue for exactly 24 hours after the post is made. If there's a tie, there will be a new 24 hour topic. This will continue indefinitely until a winner is determined.

The following write-ups will contain untagged SPOILERS for Suikoden II and Final Fantasy VI.

LUCA BLIGHT

Luca Blight is a major antagonist in Suikoden II.

Known for his unmatched cruelty and bloodlust, Luca is referred to as the "Mad Prince"; the source of his anger resulted from an attack on the Highland royalty's entourage by ruffians. Luca was traveling with his mother, Sara, and father, Agares, when they were attacked by a group of ruffians. Luca's father fled in fear, leaving Luca and his mother to their mercy; Sara was raped repeatedly, while Luca was forced to witness the ordeal. He would later discover the ruffians were hired by Muse, and has since developed a profound hatred to the Jowston Alliance and his father, Agares, the incompetent King of Highland. Luca gains military control over the Highland Army when Agares steps down to take responsibility for the ceasefire signed with Jowston. With his newfound power, Luca instigates another war with Jowston and uses the Beast Rune, beginning a plot that involves massacring the entire Unicorn Youth Brigade and blaming the incident on Jowston. He rapidly attacks and conquers the city-states of Jowston and successfully conspires with Jowy Atreides to assassinate Agares. The collaborative efforts of Leon Silverberg, Shu and Jowy bring about his downfall at the hands of the New State Army. Luca appears as a cruel and sadistic psychopath with utterly no redeeming or even tragic qualities. Every one of his killings is always followed by a purely evil laugh. He is tyrannical to the Highland Kingdom by gaining control over the military power of the Highland Army. In this regard, Luca can be described as a "berserker" type of character. He is quenching his bloodlust, as seen when he fatally kills a scared woman after forcing her to act like a pig when he burned the village in Ryube. He is also shown to be selfish and treacherous, such as when he betrayed his own father, Agares Blight, during his assassination with Jowy by poison as part of his revenge for leaving him and his mother in fear during the attack in Jowston, and also in the aforementioned incident with the woman in Ryube, as he implied he'd spare her only if she behaved like a pig. He seems to be aware to a degree of his truly depraved and vile nature, as when dying, he openly brags about being the true face of evil.

KEFKA

Kefka is the primary antagonist of Final Fantasy VI.

The court mage of the Gestahlian Empire, Kefka was their first experimental Magitek Knight, giving him the ability to use magic. However, the process was not yet perfected and the infusion damaged Kefka's mind, transforming him into a maniacal harlequin with an unquenchable thirst for blood. When word came that a frozen esper had been dug up in the northern town of Narshe, Kefka used a Slave Crown to take control of Terra. As a test of his control over her, Kefka ordered her to burn fifty Imperial soldiers, which she did. Kefka headed to an Imperial Camp on the outskirts of Doma Castle. General Leo was leading a siege of the castle, but their efforts had been stymied. Kefka intended to usurp Leo's command of the Imperial force and break the stalemate by poisoning Doma's water supply. Edgar's brother, Sabin, was infiltrating the camp with the ninja mercenary Shadow, and when they overheard Kefka's intent they intervened to stop him. The Imperials stalled the two long enough for Kefka to dump the poison and Doma was decimated. Kefka eventually turned on Emperor Gestahl and seized control of the Warring Triad to become the god of magic, and used their power to destroy the known world. Kefka cares nothing about anyone or anything but himself and he finds no greater joy in life than in inflicting suffering and death unto others. He has no long-reaching goal for his destructive actions, destruction itself is the goal. He manipulates the emotions of others and will readily lie without hesitation, but his purpose for doing this is again usually nothing but his own amusement in tormenting them. Kefka's need to inflict suffering drives him to continuously greater heights to satiate his urges, culminating with the ruination of the entire world and the deaths of countless creatures. Confronted by the party at the end of the game, Kefka reveals the ultimate revelation he has achievedthat life is meaningless. All things that live will die, everything people care about will be destroyed, and everything they achieved will be forgotten. Thus Kefka declares that struggling to continue living in the face of death is pointless and stupid, and people should accept their fates and surrender themselves to destruction at his hands. When the party refutes his claims with their personal reasons for living, Kefka flies into a rage and declares that he will destroy those reasons, and the concepts of love and hope are worthless and he will destroy them as well.

my vote is for luca blight

while kefka was a textbook nihilist who achieved more death and destruction, he is also actually insane. lucais more like a serial killer who used past trauma as an excuse to be evil instead of actually being 'criminally' insane. kefka is more padded room type crazy while luca is just straight up evil imo

I thought about this a bit

Very similarly evil characters. Basically fighter and mage in the same insane adventuring party. Hard to imagine either one not doing any evil deed the other didn't.

I think the tipping point for me is Kefka has some early moments where he's clowning around with his underlings-- the stuff at Figaro Castle for example Kefka shouts at his boys and calls them idiots. Hard to imagine Luca ever needing to chastise his soldiers-- he'd just murder any sources of insubordination and would have fear going on. Whether that's because Kefka wasn't powerful enough to just murder his own people I don't know but...

Luca Blight gets a slight nod from me. Very open to arguments on this one though.

Kefka

Although i think this is a very VERY close consideration in evil, both having been broken in their own ways (magitek testing, horrible childhood) probably the only point that is the tipping point is that Kefka's madness came from within, where a large part of Luca's plot is that the Beast Rune as activated became an influence to his personality, whereas the warring triad just gave power to let Kefka deal with his whims.

Way I see it

Kefka is content to make people miserable, he kills many but he comes off as the type to enjoy the reactions as much as anything.
Luca basically kills everyone with no mercy.

Luca with the light of judgment doesn't blast someone's house with it he destroys the whole town. The world is probably way more messed up by the time Celes gets moving.

I do think Luca and Kefka are basically the same in terms of what they're capable of I just think Kefka might crazy RNG to something less terrible sometimes. Luca is just a bit more brutal and consistent imo.

Kefka's goal is to make a monument to suffering. That's more ambitious than just wanting to kill everyone.
