Absolutely not. And at least many fast food places will give you free or discounted meals for an 8-hour shift.

I work that job. In-home care is better than working in a care home environment, because you're usually working one-on-one with a client instead of one-on-fifteen.

Care homes are also chronically understaffed. We had over 50 residents on our assisted living side, and never had more than four workers ever.

I've worked in nursing homes off and on since I was a teenager. Laundry is terrible, too. So. Much. Poop. And urine. Occasionally blood.

Housekeeping sucks, too. At least at the one I worked at last (was maintenance director, so over housekeeping and laundry). Low pay, unrealistic expectations. Some of my employees were literally making $8.50 an hour and new ones were being brought in at $10. Corporate wouldn't move the existing people up so it was terrible...

I had days with 4-5 employees to cover laundry and cleaning. Four halls plus common areas and offices. Plus keeping up with the garbage..108 bed facility... Some days there were less people than that. One day it was me and one other person... We were fussed at but what can you do? I remember working 23 days straight at one point and my boss told me I needed to work harder, sweat more and do more. I quit about fifteen minutes later..

Rendering plant. I dare you to find more soul crushing work, with the upside that you get horrible safety conditions and get to go home smelling like every variety of death you can imagine.

It's not the job description that turns people off that work in those environments. There's plenty of CNAs and Nurses out there to fill those spots. It's just management that penny pinch and won't staff enough at a time that makes the job turnaround so high. It's no different than having a baby. Eventually we all grow old and need help using the bathroom or our bodies fail us enough that we need total cares. If you can care for a baby you can work in a nursing home.

The pay isn't terrible either since the amount of hours you can work is usually limitless in that field. A CNA can make from $16-18 a hour before the $1-3 differential depending on the shift and bonuses that are offered. Nurses I'm not sure exactly what their hourly wages are usually since you've got LPN and RN that can make anywhere from $50k-70k a year. I pass the meds and on average make $44k a year before bonuses. With current bonuses I make $68k a year. The pay could be better, but it's not completely terrible either. I live in the mid-south too.

Lots of worse jobs out there than a nursing home. You'd have to be pretty selfish to think it's a terrible job for people to have.

yeah wiping old people's asses sucks but how good or bad working at a nursing home is depends on the ownership

The one here processed all the bits of animal that don't get eaten typically in to a variety of things. Grease, bone meal, and the high protein stuff that goes in pet food. You always smell like rotting meat by the time you get home.

My brothers ex did that job but it was for mentally handicapped people in a home. Imagine having to do those tasks but half the time they try to fight you and they are twice your size.

you really think working fast food is worse than this?

It's rougher in some cases. They treat you like shit and expect you to be at full hustle all day. Like a popular saying in fast food is you got time to lean you got time to clean. Sorry fuck me if I wanna take a minute breather after a hour long rush.

Physically it's just a more miserable job. It's hot and they expect you to bust your ass non-stop.

I work 12 and a half hour days in a fucking prison and work like 71 hours a week. I'd never go back to 40 hours a week in fast food if I can help it. Even if the pay was the same. I went home exhausted everyday.

Glad I got the expierence though cause I'm one to take a job seriously so I learned some work ethic
