In world of warcraft, people hate gnomes. In Final Fantasy 14, people despise Lalafells

It's kinda funny. But I wonder why people distrust little folk

Oh. I mean with real players. Not in the story. The players seem to often not like these races and people who play them

In Ragnarok Online at least, people only dislike the Doram cats a bit.

Mostly because Doram and Human are considered different race, so things that resist Human's attacks or does more damage to Human don't work on Doram (and vice versa). Which makes PVP a bit more complicated lol.

The vulpera dont seem to get the same level of hate as gnomes. Though I think saying kill the gnomes is more just a Horde meme than genuine hatred. Now if you want genuine get a life levels of nerd hatred, youve got Sylvanas fanboys.

For those unfamiliar with WoW, shes a faction leader (I.e. politician) whos committed countless atrocities and alluded to others, and has a legion of cult-like followers ready to excuse or justify every last one of them. At the height of her power there was even an in-game choice you could make to either join the revolution or side with her.

My best friend plays a Lalafell. They seem popular on the Japanese server anyway.

It's more like ingame "bullying" and "discrimination".

In something like 95% it's meant as a joke, in 5% people have some real issues for real.

Doram didn't come with Renewal though, it's implemented some time after. Renewal started at Episode 13, iirc, while Doram came with Episode 16 update.

(For the record, the south korea/main server of RO is currently on Episode 20. Most other official and private servers are still on somewhere between 17-19, though.)

People think it's cool and edgey to pick on what is perceived as weak and cute.

i don't think that's really the case in mmos.

in WoW i didn't see as much of it, but in ffxiv, people hate lalas. but it's because dear fuck every lala player is obnoxious as hell.

You just blew my mind. RO was my first big MMO love, but I quit so many years ago. I thought it was dead... now I find I'm like 10+ episodes out of the loop.

Lalafells deserve to be potato soup

I've only played a bit of FF14, but lalafells just look kind of ridiculous. They look like children, so it's hard to take them seriously when there's a whole storyline about them being involved in complex political backstabbing.

It also makes them look really dumb when they give one facial hair.

I thought they did crackdowns on private server a year ago. My favorite, TalonRO was shut down.

I think lalafells are fun, but certain types of lalafell players in ffxiv give me the creeps.

Wow gnomes are both ugly and extremely annoying in-game as npcs, I can understand disliking them.

In WoW, I would never have played a gnome at all. Any race were fine, but I didn't wanted to play a gnome at all, because I thought they looked bad.

When I started FF XIV, and watched that trailer for ARR, I made my decision of creating the cutest adorable Lalafel healer I could come up with, with 2 pink ribbons in her hair.

Many years later, the warrior of light, hero of the dragonsong war, slayer of gods and eikons, liberator of doma and ala mhigo, warrior of darkness, and wearer of 9001 other titles and feats...

Is a dark knight tank girl, 90cm in height.

Best decicion ever.

Because they're annoyingly small. Can be harder to target, or even see.

Another thing about FFXIV is characters can get married, and there's some people who thing lalas should only be allowed to marry lalas.

That's surprising since its a pretty big meme. At least on my server in Phoenix.

I've always made Bosmer characters in Elder scrolls on a second or third run when I want to try out stealth/marksman

First run is always a melee class and I rarely get into magic

For me, it's about gear. Character progression is directly tied to gear in an MMO. Imagine toiling and sweating for so long to get an item. Then you get that item, and it's barely visible due to being scaled down to a Gnome or Lalafell. Or feels like a toy because of that.

I generally don't care as long as it isn't am important role like the Tank and it makes them hard to see.

People been hating on small characters since oddjob in goldeneye

Speaking as someone who doesn't play MMOs, if I did, I wouldn't play a race that's forced to squat in another's capital city. This means gnomes (and trolls) would be a no-go for me if I played wow.

They're "cute" and the Japanese by and large love "cute" things

I loved playing a gnome in WoW. It felt really cool being able to go toe to toe with Tauren, orcs, and the like as an unassuming little dude.

I don't think people dislike goblins, though. And they dislike vulpera for different reasons than being short...

But from what I can tell, people playing wow dislike gnomes because they look like human babies with stumpy limbs and big heads.

Smashing many hulking towering enemies with a tiny catgirl is a kind of power fantasy too, one where you love seeing such a tiny cute thing easily turning humoungous bosses into mush XD

I think that can also be a reason why people hate the little ones - they hate that they got beaten by the little ones.

Yeah, occasionally they did that (the most recent hit was a major one in private server community - NovaRO is practically the biggest low exp rate private server out there, most RO private server players knew the name)

But there are still many other private servers out there if you're willing to look it up, including the ones that have existed for years, eluding the crackdown.
