this is beyond ridiculous. first it was asking for tips for just being a cashier or an employee. now they want tips when we do the work. GTFO and demand better wages.

I mean, don't tip. They have every right to ask for one.

I think it's out of control too, but people need to understand when it's appropriate to tip (dine-in, delivery, etc.) and when it's not (self-checkout)

I've saved so much money on these. I always tip the max so it deducts the amount from my total purchase.

They all probably just use the same generic checkout software and dont turn off the option for tipping (if they can), because, well, why would they?

Just dont tip at places where its not expected (food servers, barbers, etc). Easy peasy. I would agree that tipping shouldnt be a thing, but the same could be said for a lot of facets of capitalism.

It goes to you, the customer. You're the one doing the work

There is no tipping culture. There is a culture of businesses pushing off their responsibility to pay their employees a livable wage onto their customers.

if you're getting carryout or doing something where a tip is not customary, they can suck it up. and when they spit in your drink, you can sue.

Those self service car wash drive thrus like Mister Car Wash have a tip option now too.

A lot of POS systems just have the add tip screens programmed in, like it's no longer an optional screen to turn on it always there.

Nobody's going to judge you for not tipping the self service kiosk. Just click no and move on with your life instead of seething about it on the internet

Divided between all the employees, to a certain employee that did the work, just straight to the company? Good chance it's the latter.

Even Subway is doing this with their cashless system.

You're getting charged extra for an act that ensures airline peeps get paid fairly? Are you at an airport at all?

This is almost always a result of the stock POS software coming with a tipping screen by default and company not having it customized to remove it (because it would cost money). I'm sure they also noticed that people would actually tip, which further removed the incentive to have it changed.

If you knocked out the screen it would probably be worthless

not my OP, but that was at an airport, yes.

You can chip or swipe, but of course, you can't swipe.

If the tips don't go to the workers, then the Attorney General should get on suing them, as was done multiple times in DC.
