You just came home from swimming with your best friend John. He'll be back for your party at Chuck E Cheeses later. Your mom let you open one present, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, and you're playing it right now. You don't know it yet, but your entire life will be downhill from here.

My 7th birthday was in 1984, if I went swimming with anyone I'd be dead because I can't swim, I never went to Chuck E. Cheese as a kid, I've never played Yoshi's Island, and my life was pretty steadily upward trending until I hit 40 or so, which is when my warranty expired and my body began to break down a piece at a time. Also, I'm pretty sure I never knew anyone my own age named John, let alone as a friend.

You're really bad at this cold reading stuff!

Swimming? no, especially not in winter
Downhill point/peak: 18ish, but also my life is great in my 30s. Teen years had so much...chaos

My 7th birthday was in 1990. I could swim decently, but was kind of afraid to go too far into the deeper end. My best friends were Stephanie and Brenda and I had an NES. I was also the school outcast, and was just finding out how awful a person my mom was, so I was miserable anyway.

RIP Chuck E. Cheese

it's funny how we can look back on certain moments in our lives and pinpoint them as the peak of our happiness. for me, it was my seventh birthday and receiving super mario world 2

everything felt perfect in that moment. my best friend was coming over, i had a new game to play, and i was surrounded by my family who loved me

but as i grew older, life became more complicated. there were moments of joy, of course, but also moments of sadness, frustration, and confusion. i realized that life isn't always easy and that sometimes, the best moments are fleeting.

however, i try to hold onto the happiness and innocence of that moment. i still love playing video games, and i still cherish the memories of my childhood. even though life can be tough, it's important to hold onto the things that bring us joy and make us feel alive.

On my 7th birthday I just saw the twin towers collapse and people were trying to tell me why it was "not cool"

I was playing Spyro on the PS1 while my dad was trying to get me to play baseball. Also, trying to get me to not play those awesome Barbie and fashion games. I'll never find that plug and play game that had a whole fashion designer sims game, but if I ever make an indie game it will be just like it.

Fuck, I didn't realize that was as good as it was going to get. At least video games got a lot better. You can barely see the polygons anymore.

Anyway, obligatory "not with that attitude" reply. I've seen people with serious PTSD turn their lives around and be happy.

Soon they will just be voxels that you can destroy like in teardown, and that will be freaking awesome. Realistic physics is such a huge factor in immersion and we never even realized it.

Sadly, that was more of an 90s thing. 80's kids just had Chuck E Cheese and Showbiz Pizza.

Or, if you lived near me, you got Razz-Ma-Tazz:

Why? I'm already in my mid-40s. I'll be dead soon.

Also, I don't really go on boats or planes so my odds of winding up in a large body of water are pretty much zero at this point.

And considering I'm literally sitting here with stitches in my back from the recent removal of an "abnormal pre-cancerous mole", I'm not even sure I'm overly keen on going in pools anymore. I want to live underground far away from the traitorous sun and its evil radiation. Hisssss!

Was just doing the mental math in my head. I would have been 8 when the Challenger exploded. That was pretty much my "childhood tragedy" moment.
