Board 8 > Just finished the Arabasta Arc in One Piece. How is the quality from here?

I finally gained some momentum with One Piece near the end of the Two battling giants arc and have been moving right along.

Arabasta felt like the biggest deal to me since Arlong and it feels like a Freeza type arc of this series. Is this peak One Piece or can I expect greater heights?

The best arc of the series is ~300 chapters after Arabasta, I think. You still have lots of other good stuff to come.

It's not the peak. A lot of people feel like the next saga is a bit of a dip, but I still consider it quite great.

But as Alabasta is the culmination of a (longer) saga, it definitely benefits from that in how big of a deal it is (and Crocodile as a truly fearsome villain).

I like the next major arc more than most, but if I temper my love for that I would say Alabasta is the second best. Best arc in the series is the major arc after the next one.

You're in One Piece's best stretch right now and that includes Alabasta but I wouldn't say it's the absolute peak. The next three major arcs are all great with one of them being amazing.

Agree with this

Though the main problem with later OP (the anime, at least) is not that the actual story quality degrades, its that the pacing goes to shit once they stop having filler arcs and only adapt ~one chapter per episode

It's very near peak.

One Piece, the manga at least, stays high quality pretty much from here on out, with some great peaks

I also agree with this.

It's the second highest peak. It will have one more time where it really takes off, but aside from that, don't get your hopes too high.

Big arc after Arabasta is pretty bad and if you're watching the anime, pretty dull.

I love the next arc lol.

Like, I get the people who don't, but it really worked for me.

Next arc has very different opinions on it. Just know that even if it feels separate from everything it really really isn't.

Arc/saga after that is arguably the best in the series.

Then another one with mixed opinions butt generally not as popular and more silly.

Then the start of a saga ending in the other popular choice for best arc in the series.

I definitely wouldn't say Alabasta is peak though it is almost always in people's top 5 and often top 3 arcs (assuming you merge water 7/Enies lobby )

Who here is still watching the ongoing series? Will there be enough good to keep me for the long run? Im excited to have a series I enjoy that I could potentially enjoy for a while

My wife and I still watch it and love it. But it is best to let it build up for a bit then binge rather than try and watch week to week.

Some people hate the 2nd half of the series others really love it. Just kind of have to see where you fall. The last like three large arcs have people who hate them and people who think they are among the best in the entire series.

I think the second half of the series is an enormous drop overall, but some people think the most recent arc is peak One Piece.

I will say that the first half of the series is certainly less devicive. Like, you're not going to find anyone who claims Alabasta is bad, or the arc after the next, unless they just want attention.

I think Part 1 is better overall than the second half... Alabasta to the end of part 1 is all pretty much great. But the second half is no slouch either.... but I say this as a manga reader

As someone who actually LIKES the next arc a lot, that run from Alabasta to two arcs from then is is such an incredible run of anime, especially since it's only towards the end of that arc that the anime pacing issues start to hit and it gets harder and harder to watch.

It's no wonder One Piece anime hype was at an all time high back then (I started watching while they were on the train) that I was watching like 6+ hours of it a day every day to get caught up.

I stopped watching the anime a couple hundred episodes from where you are, but the manga is still great. The anime itself is still good for a while after Alabasta though

shoutout also to the best filler arc in the series being after the arc after the next too

The only filler in the entire series I wouldn't tell people to skip.

Next major arc is very DBZ. I don't mean it turns into DBZ pacing or combat but there are visible similarities. I like it. The mini-arc after is excellent and unique.

I mean a couple of the movie set ups are OK but they are just to hype the movies and not worth watching unless you are going to watch the movie after.

Other than that there isn't really "filler episodes" in the 2nd half of the show. Not in the way people think of normally anyway. If they need to delay they just do a recap or flashback episode or just take some time off. But also, as mentioned, they basically do a chapter an episode so they aren't catching up.

Next arc is where I quit watching One Piece for like a year so obviously I'm not a fan. Picked it back up with the manga skipping that arc and haven't stopped since.

There are more top tier arcs coming up in the future, no question. Don't worry on that front. Like people have said, the next arc has some mixed reactions. Go into it with an open mind and I think it's pretty cool even if the middle does drag a bit; it has some fun worldbuilding and a hell of a finale.

I watched the movie version of the next arc not to long ago and it had me cryin' NGL.

The arc after Alabasta is not as good. I actually stopped in the middle of it and haven't had a strong desire to go back. It's not the worst, or anything, but it's a drop in quality for sure.

I will say that the "lead up" to the next arc is pretty bad. once they get to the island it's good but the journey is not
