I like getting tipsy better than getting drunk, by a lot, getting drunk isn't fun anymore when you are 29. Getting tipsy is like the perfect level of drinking.

For me and pretty much everyone else I know, 40 was when we all just sort of hit a wall and all the aches and pains and falling apart started.

I don't think I ever liked getting drunk. I never look back on the handful of times I have been drunk and go "Gee, it sure was fun stumbling to the toilet and puking for the next half hour!" Probably around the time I was 25 was when I stopped drinking because it was Friday and started to be a "one and done" person when it came to alcohol.

Yeah, it's the big number for a reason. In your 30s you notice a couple imperfections, but that's typically all they are. In the 40s stuff just stops healing the same way. That ache in your shoulder after simply throwing the ball for your dog? It might stay there for six months and it's enough to go to the doc for. Whatever that is definitely would have healed itself before.

As for drunk vs tipsy, I think that's more of a 'getting enough experience to know what's actually fun thing' vs an age thing. The age part of it is that it gets harder to find the right amount to drink for a pleasant tipsy: the amount of space between 'feeling nothing' and 'falling asleep/feeling sick' gets smaller.

Hell, I'm 50. I used to get drunk all the time but I don't do that anymore. I grew out of it because I work all the time now.

In my 30s, I realized at that point I had to drink smarter. I drink water when I drink, and I also have NAC supplements that help process alcohol metabolites. I also don't do sugary stuff when drinking.....that is a straight trip to puke land.

I've gotten better with drinking in my 30s actually. There was a time in my 20s where drinking more than a few drinks just put me to sleep. Now I can handle more alcohol without falling asleep, though I rarely get more than a heavy buzz. I am sure actual hangovers(the kind where your entire next day is shot and everything feels like pain, not just a groggy start where you recover after) would probably suck worse than in my 20s, though.

I'm 36 and still enjoy getting drunk. I will say I don't drink in order to get drunk though. Never have really. It's just something that happens sometimes.
