Got both collections with classic and X Mega Man games and I beat a bunch of them way back on the PS2 but I can't remember.
In Mega Man 1-11 or whatever I don't have to worry about collectibles/items correct?

Yes, but not in the same way X had them. It was more extra weapons and items. They didn't increase your health bar, or give you extra abilities like in X. They were mostly one-time use or required energy to use.

And it is mostly 6, 7, and 8 that has them. I haven't played the mega man series in a while, but those are the 3 that come to mind, and it is mostly 7 and 8. 6 only has the hidden beat letters and the energy equalizer.

Yes, Rush abilities/armor in MM6, and some games have hidden weapons/items.

There were extra lives going all the way back to the first game, and Energy Tanks starting with MM2.

there generally aren't things to find in the levels, no, though I can't speak for all of them

anything you get you tend to get automatically after beating a boss

Energy Tanks starting with MM2
only consumable items though, not something like MMX's reusable energy tanks

Megaman 6, 10, and 7 have the Energy Balancer.
Megaman 11 has several upgrades, including but not limited to the Energy Balencer, Awakener Chip, Cooling system, and E-Tank holder.

The armor from 6 is from killing bosses though, he's asking for items you try and find in the stages

I just finished Mega Man 1 for the first time in at least 10 years. I remember now the item you get in one of the levels is missable and it's the item that lets you build stairs to go higher.
I remember now when I played it on PS2 many years ago I missed it the first time around, got screwed later and had to go back and get it.
Also on a side note, I'm always reminded of how goddamn unresponsive these old games are when I play them again. Mega Man sometimes doesn't jump and just falls to his death, jumps too high and hits the ceiling and falls to his death. Annoying as hell. I remember reading a review ages ago and "controls being responsive and amazing" on the NES and I think that reviewer should be slapped.

Mega Man 1 has definitely aged worse than the other classic games

I don't think I ever figured out how to beat Fire Man with just the Mega Buster
