Someone is "sweating" because they're putting in a lot of effort to win. But for the most part, it's something butthurt dweebs say when some beats them/is better than them at something.

I mean, depends on the context. Obviously in a competitive lobby all bets are off, but going into casual lobbies and playing off the wall, using tech you'd normally only see at high level play is sweaty.

you can't tell me the dudes on call of duty with 10 sensitivity, using movement exploits, the best meta guns, trying to get nukes, quickscoping, recording montages, etc, aren't sweating bullets (no pun intended) from the very second they start the game, whether they're good or not.

it is actually possible to take something too seriously to the point that they look bad for it and undermine the fact that they're supposed to be playing a game, not training like it's an olympic sport ffs. idk what anyone has to gain by defending "gamers" like these who play nonstop, all day every day, who you know ruin it for normal people who just want to chill and have fun after work, or on the weekend, or whatever, and somehow they aren't the "dweebs"

There's a big difference between skilled players and the sweats

Skilled players will demolish you with whatever they want when they want

Sweats use the cookie cutter build with the meta weapon and setup that all the other sweats use and you see em a mile away. When they make one mistake they rage quit

it's when someone plays to win when the game is already unfairly in their favor (ex: team has a DC/afk/troll/new player, but the opponent isn't going easy)

My hands swear when I play fighters and cod. Nothing wrong with it. When you're good at something no reason not to go hard in competition. Anyone openly calling you sweaty is so ironically salty considering.

it's not about playing to win, that's just how games work, from video games to board games. it's about the shit people who take it too seriously do to make sure they win no matter what, style and flex, try to go "MLG" (remember that? lol) blah blah blah, examples have been made in the thread, but people are always gonna play dumb and pretend they've never stopped having fun because of exploits, overpowered stuff, glitches, etc

unless they just don't play PvP games, which is fine, but then they shouldn't even have an opinion on it

At that point I blame the game for having matchmaking that clearly doesn't put you against people of your own skill level more than people liking it a lot and getting good

In multiplayer games it's annoying when sweaty and hardcore people join casual chill groups and get mad when they aren't playing to their standards.

that's definitely a factor. skill-based matchmaking was a hot topic for the last several call of dutys (calls of duty...?)

but some of you really are being disingenuous when you say people are just "getting good" with no other context or information about what people complain about. nothing's perfect, devs do in fact make mistakes, and anyone's within their rights to judge somebody negatively for only playing a game if they can use whatever takes the least amount effort to get the best results

i guess sweaty and tryhard are both kind of misnomers in that regard

chances are if someone's calling you a tryhard or a sweaty they tried just as hard and produced just as much sweat, it just didn't work out for them. imagine being in a state where you take a game so seriously you have words and the first thing you say is that the other player takes it too seriously. that's how badly some people handle losing.

You haven't experienced sweaty players until you played Tarkov. Games last like 40 mins and guys will spend the first 35 hiding in a bush or in a closet to catch someone by surprise.

theres people that only use meta and spend hours and hours of their life perfecting movement because they dont have a job or relationship.

those are sweats. I dont mind sweats in comp games like siege or valorant. Thats a competitive setting.

but people that sweat in games like dead by daylight, fall out guys, or call of duty are fucking weird since those are more casual

On TF2 it's always "Tryhard" and it's always self-proclaimed friendlies who turn rabid at the drop of a hat using it. The modern TF2 demographic is a disappointing bunch on the whole. They communicate in the same binds repeatedly, want random crits removed and think TF2 should be some sort of ultra serious skill based esport. To some degree, they deserve the bot apocalypse.

Fuck Dark Souls invaders though, you make a great game and then make a few features available only under the condition that I waste my time babysitting this mix of hyperventilators and actual cheaters.
They should have at least let you make it to the boss fog to cancel it.

There's a point where you're trying too hard though, unnecessarily. I would give a WoW example, but it's too specific.

i feel like the people that think tryhards aren't real and it's just an excuse for losing haven't been subjected to what being a tryhard actually is. i can take a loss as long as i had fun and a fair shot, but tryhards make sure you don't. they have capture cards running, streams up, montages to make. there's no time for kiddy stuff like "fun," and if you don't like it, uninstall the game, scrub. get fucked, let's goooo, etc etc

I'm gonna play to win no matter what mode I'm playing. I'm usually far from the best so I will play unranked or casual cause I like to win once in awhile lol. Or sometimes it boils down stuff like whichever I can find a match quicker in or if playing ranked and I keep getting the same opponent
