Quick backstory: I'm highly introverted to something it's really hard to even be around people. Especially once I've never met before. I've become mostly a hermit because of this, sometimes it takes a lot of hype and self-encouragement to even go out of the house.

So, the other day I was looking around for bakeries and find one I've never been to before, and I checked out their web site, and saw that every day they have different kinds of bread and on Wednesdays they have pretzel bread, so I decided to go do and get a loaf, as well as some other goodies. So, I just went down there, found that, while it was open, there were no other customers in the shop. I could see through the big windows that the shop part was mostly empty, and all of the food was behind the counter, and my imagination ran away with me, that because I never been in there before, I would look stupid by not knowing where anything was, and how long I would have taken trying to decide what to get, and...well, then I just got uncomfortable really fast, and decided not to go in. And now I'm just so upset with myself that I didn't.

Fix it by going back.

People don't care about that stuff. Even if you fuck up an order, they'll literally forget about you in a minute

Thats kind of absurd actually. If you have questions its their job to answer them - and you may even make a new friend in the process.

I'm also too embarrassed now, because the guy who worked there saw me through the window, and was probably wondering why I was pacing for a little bit outside, and then got back in my car and drove away.

He literally does not care.

If on the infinitesimally small chance that someone brings it up in conversation with you at the store you say "Oh yeah, I had an emergency and had to go." That's not even a lie. Everyone is satisfied, and you get your pretzel bread.

I probably will go back, but not until later in the day.

People just need to learn to appreciate the small things in life. That fixed a ton of things for me during my rebellious teenage years.

If you miss up people will not care and if they do fuck em. You get your bread and know that you have the support of the CE the place on the internet where the same group of people debate politics and cartoon vs real women.

I feel that anxiety sometimes. It helps me to remind myself that 99% of the world doesn't give a fuck about my existence, and once our interaction is done they will forget me forever. Getting all in your head about how you appear or what others will think is pointless because most of the time you literally stop existing to them once you're gone.

Idk, it helped me a lot in certain points of my life.

I worked in retail for years. Served tens of thousands of people probably. I can remember like 4. Before you're out the door I forgot you exist and am either dealing with whoever is next or whatever I was doing before you came in.

Yeah. The truth of the matter is that everyone in society is just trying to get through the day while dealing with their own issues. They generally won't take any special notice of you.

I know how you feel man. Shit, a lot of us have been like that before. No one wants to look stupid. But you can't help how you feel, so try not to beat yourself up. I'm in the same struggle too, frankly. I'm trying to manage. Frankly, it's keeping me from earning a decent living, this type of anxiety and dread. So, just wanted you to know you're not alone, but we can only do our best, try again another time, maybe we get it right next time. Hang in there man, try not to beat yourself up.

i used to deal with this kind of anxiety too. not even all the time. just completely random and unexplainable.

similar to said above, realizing that the world doesn't give a shit helps. also, getting angry, frustrated, or just tired of everything also helps. you stop being anxious when you just want your fucking bread without worrying about anything.

hang in there though. nothing to be ashamed of. just gotta find what works for ya.

Its all good. You didnt show your ass in there or anything. Ill also tell you something that I learned from working in customer service:

Most people are so mean and short tempered that you can absolutely make someones day by simple being polite and maybe telling them theyre doing a good job. Go in and get the ball in YOUR playing field. You can also avoid feeling nervous about being indecisive if you ask them what they like there or if there are any new products.

Being in other peoples heads is such a curse even though I know that sort thing of mental wiring has its perks too.

Something I realized being on the other side of the desk now: we don't care about customers who get in, get out, and are down to business. The ones we notice are the loud ones and the Karen nitpickers.

I'm the same way about being a hermit and meeting new people. I worry about looking stupid, doing the wrong thing, and embarrassing myself too. I hate it and myself for it.

Every small victory leads to greater improvement. Good stuff, OP.

The bread is pretty good, used if to make a sandwich. There's the classic pretzel salt on the crust, and it's got the classic pretzel taste.

Now that' I've been there, I feel more comfortable to go back, and try some of their other daily specialty breads. The Icelandic Brown bread and Apple Pie bread the two I'm most interested to try.
