What's your current living situation?

I have no idea how people coming out of college now, can afford to own anything decent or in a decent location

I own a townhouse but voted the first option because a townhouse is much more similar to a single family house than it is to a condo

Renting an apartment for like 7 years now, and when my lease runs out this summer I'll probably have to move to another state because I can't even afford rent here anymore

I own a house and rent out a bedroom. Is that what the third option is? Or do you have to co-own the house with the other people?

I pay affordable rent in one of the best areas in my city. $915 a month for a 600 square foot one-bedroom apartment. There's a park just outside, a Target two blocks away, a small farmer's market, and several other shopping options in walking distance. It's also along the bus line, so it's easy to get places if you don't have a vehicle.

The rent's probably gonna go way up in the next five years because of how much is being built around here, and it wouldn't shock me if this building was bought out for redevelopment, seeing as it's 55 y/o and "ugly" (but very well-maintained for its age... and nearly fireproof).

I just sold my house that I lived in for the past 7 years. Preparing to move to NC but as of now I'm homeless. Just staying with family for a bit before I go.

My biggest curiosity is how many y/o the people who still live with their parents are. Perhaps this calls for another poll:
  • "I live with my parents, and I am under 30 y/o"
  • "I live with my parents, and I am 30 y/o or older"
  • "I live by myself, and I am under 30 y/o"
  • "I live by myself, and I am 30 y/o or older"
  • "I live with roommates, and I am under 30 y/o"
  • "I live with roommates, and I am 30 y/o or older"
  • "It's just me and my significant other, and I am under 30 y/o"
  • "It's just me and my significant other, and I am 30 y/o or older"
  • "I have children of my own, and I am under 30 y/o"
  • "I have children of my own, and I am 30 y/o or older"
Gotta wonder what the results to THAT would be.

Just bought a condo!

But honestly I have no earthly idea how anyone is expected to make it these days without considerable support from their parents. I'm about to turn 32 and have been living at home and saving this entire time - if I didn't have that I'd be renting for life at best, homeless at worst. Granted I'm sure California is worse than a lot of the country in this regard but national sentiment doesn't seem to be much better!

Are you surprised by the high number of people that live with their parents? don't be. Those are shitty times we live at.
I would have left my parents a long long time ago if I actually could buy a house.
And my problem is that I can't get it out of my head that renting is a waste of money. You don't actually buy anything, it's money that goes down the drain.
Not only is this a waste of money but it also makes you lose the race with inflation. Depending on how much money you can save per month, you might actually never be able to beat inflation and never be able to purchase a house :/

I bought a home at 24 (10 years ago) only because my mother died and left me around 50k with instructions saying that unless something urgent came up to use it for getting a house. Ended up buying a decent house for 120k and have updated it a couple times over the years. House down the street that i would like to think is pretty similar in all respects to mine sold for 360k earlier this year. I could not afford one today if i didn't already have one.

Absolutely not surprised, I keep up with the data, but its just sad to see for my personal board 8 population. I always hoped you all would be outliers. We have some super talented and hardworking people here, and I hate knowing you are in the struggle too.
