Life is too short for most people to waste time befriending those that want to oppress and kill them. Barely enough time for far less difficult relationships.

you are drastically overestimating the impact of action taken at the individual level

The people ITT that disagree with this approach should test it out for themselves.

these same people who are critical of Daryl Davis' approach are socially awkward shut-ins that can't engage other people.

And like many have said, we can't be calm all the time, but it's still a great ideal to aspire to in contentious conversation. To listen, not hate, and try to offer a better perception..

People ITT really acting like Daryl Davis is the only person who tried to appeal to the humanity of terrible people.

For every one of him, I'd wager there's a thousand dead people who tried to reach out to bigots, racists, and hate groups, only to be killed in response.

It's great that he got some members of the KKK to change their ways, but it doesn't stop each and every KKK from being scum that should be treated as so. These are murderers, their end goal is killing people for being born different. No one is to blame for not wanting to risk their neck trying to associate with such monsters.
