People ITT really acting like Daryl Davis is the only person who tried to appeal to the humanity of terrible people.

For every one of him, I'd wager there's a thousand dead people who tried to reach out to bigots, racists, and hate groups, only to be killed in response.

It's great that he got some members of the KKK to change their ways, but it doesn't stop each and every KKK from being scum that should be treated as so. These are murderers, their end goal is killing people for being born different. No one is to blame for not wanting to risk their neck trying to associate with such monsters.

I don't think anybody thinks others are obligated to talk to such people. But I think Daryl shows the power and the good that can be done if you do. (And how "treating them as scum" is not productive)

I wouldn't blame anybody for feeling strong negative emotions towards bigotry. But I am happy there are patient people in the world would face others the way he does. Whether it's him with the KKK or even just a person speaking to a hostile family member with civility, moving people away from hate and towards a common compassionate understanding of humanity is always a positive in my book.
