S9 was overall pretty good tv and about average for a post-3 season, but i don't think it was a very good "sendoff" season. that said the finale was nice.

i voted 2 but would kinda like to change to a 3 now. oh well. i didn't think the office was a top tier show at any point beyond S3 but S9 did it justice enough.

I went with a 2, though the last arc is quite strong. However it does have a key issue as you need to watch season 9 first. The first three quarters of the season other than the Christmas episode is so bad it made me never want to rewatch The Office. Also the Jim/Pam subplot was awful. Good last stretch however!

Most of the season isn't great (the Brian stuff in particular is dreadful), but the home stretch was pretty satisfying.

Controversial opinion but I actually like seasons 8/9 better than the final Michael season which was really poorly done. That being said, everything after season 3 is a pretty noticeable dip in quality and that includes season 9 so I wound up voting a 2. Its somewhere between 2 and 3 though for me personally.

The last few seasons of the office were really hit or miss, but it's not the worst ending I've seen, even within the realm of sitcoms

Season 9 was actually decent; felt like they were actually trying

The camera man stuff was questionable, but I liked Plop and Clark Duke

Yeah the plots involving Andy and Jim/Pam were kinda eh leading up to this but this was a fine ending after all of that

Have you considered watching it on repeat another couple dozen times? That is apparently the optimal way to view it.

I got into the show late (maybe between S6 and S7), and already by that time I was hearing how S3 was sooooooooo amazing and the show goes downhill after that. While I did agree re: S3 (best sitcom season ever, perhaps?), during my binge I didn't think there was any steep falloff afterward. I recall thinking The Office was still at the top of its game even a ways into S6.

...that being said, yeah, things did get a bit rough in S7 and S8. However I thought the show turned things around in a big way in S9, including a fantastic final stretch and a near-perfect finale. Overall it was enough to earn the full 4 from me!

Yeah, I don't think there's a particularly sharp drop-off in quality after the first few seasons.

8s the weird one but they hedged so much into the Robert California character and it just didnt really stick out that well IMO

hahaha, so i have heard. only saw the series through once, though its lasting appeal as a "i have seen every episode twenty times" show is impressive

Agreed.

I shall give the good people one more day to have their say, before we move on to the next sitcom tomorrow.

(Because the lower votals are so weird to me considering this was a smash hit show at the time which has since been constantly binged ever since streaming became a big deal. Maybe the appeal was always too casual for this board... or maybe we're just the wrong gender?)

Then again it did run for 201 episodes, so getting to the ending takes a bit of a commitment. Maybe lots of B8ers enjoyed the first 4ish seasons but fell off before S9.
