Jesus: "The love of money is the root of ALL EVIL."

Wow, that is pretty condemning.

Christians" WAIT WAIT! HOLD A MINUTE! See here sir, look, it say THE LOVE of money! THE LOVE of money! NOT MONEY!"

Ok, I guess you can explain to Jesus when he asks why you bought a lambo?

Inb4, Jesus didn't say that was just his lowly apostle or w/e.

It's not untrue and it is an important clarification. Money is an inanimate tool that society uses to organize. Greed is what really makes things ugly, and greed is what is in the hearts of people. Greed is what you need to use self control to manage.

Being an agnostic person that just pays attention to themes in story telling, it's explicitly obvious here no one is using this as a "Gotcha!" and TC is just misinterpreting discussion about self control and greed.

You didn't make it up, you just took it out of context, either from sheer confusion and misunderstanding, or because you just wanted to laugh at the silly religious people. Probably both.

I think what he means by "gotcha" is that some Christians use this distinction to try and argue that there's no sin in hoarding wealth so long as you don't "love" it.

I don't see what's wrong with what he said.

Like a lot of (most?) Muslims read riba (usury) is wrong and take that to mean all forms of interest, even the next to nothing you get from your bank account, is a sin. So the end result is a just a lot of unnecessary confusion, shaming, and holier-than-though BS.

Evidence in the bible actually suggests Jesus lived a life of luxury once he reached adulthood despite being born in poverty.

He had his own ministry and one of his apostles was his treasurer. Broke people don't need a treasurer.

When he was crucified it said they cast lots to see who would get a piece of his cloak. His cloak was a one-piece robe, one of the most expensive articles of clothing at the time.

On Palm Sunday he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. By today's standards people think of that as a low form of travel when they read it, but 2000 years ago in the middle east, a donkey was like a Rolls Royce! Like the friggin' Pope-Mobile!

Jesus rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday in a Bentley while wearing an expensive suit, all while his ministry began earning him a net worth.

The clarification exists because extremely wealthy people who got converted if just having money was a sin, would then not be able to be Christians.
However, once converted, acting as they did before and pursuing the wealth, would make the verse ring true that they indeed love money.

And so it goes today where the #1 thing in the lives of many who say God is #1, is actually pursuing a life of riches and luxury. If that is what they desire, then from a secular perspective, there is nothing wrong.
From a Christian perspective, there is much wrong.
But they will gladly explain why it is not wrong by saying it is the LOVE of money that is evil, and they do not love it, despite devoting their days to pursuing it.

See this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Ramsey

In 2014, The Daily Beast reported that Ramsey had lashed out against former employees he claimed were discussing working conditions at the company on Facebook and Twitter. At company staff meetings, Ramsey allegedly recounted conversations from a private Facebook group of former employees that he had infiltrated, eventually offering cash rewards for the identities of some members who took to anonymous Twitter accounts once they realized Ramsey had joined the private group. The incident prompted increased backlash, a meeting Ramsey set up to confront alleged critics, and the eventual deletion of several of the critical Twitter accounts.[18]

Why would a man who DOES NOT LOVE money, lash out against employees discussing working conditions and stalk them on social media?

In addition, first thing I think of when I hear his name is not "super charitable Christian man" but a dude who talks about money way too much.
