I still read it as Latin X, which sounds like a 90s comic book, video game, or cartoon. Latinx also sounds like a Pokemon. It really needs to stop being pushed so hard since apparently most don't like it.

I've heard mixed things from actual Hispanic people in my life and I don't use it myself but I am extremely suspicious of the wave of white conservatives desperately trying to get people to stop using it the past week.

I believe the idea is that there's no reason to actual gender someone's ethnicity like that and since no one could decide if latinos or latinas should be the word that sticks they went with the same approach used for things like mrs/miss/mr and went with X.

That X factor really gets people spicy though

I mean, if I remember my high school Spanish correctly, if there's even one man in a group of 99 women, you refer to them as Latinos. And for Latina it has to be exclusively female. So, putting in Latinx would have to rework the entire Spanish language right?

There was a study and an article saying that only a small portion of Latinos like it and arguing that Democrats should stop using it in speeches.

Which... that all makes sense. What doesn't make sense is all the righties of gamefaqs making a million threads fiercely telling people to stop using it. If it was seriously hurting the Democrats, wouldn't they want liberals to keep saying latinx?

The scene is definitely portrayed as being the outcome we should all strive for. It's unprecedented how many latinx people are making their voices heard and asking for dignity.

And it's not subtle, either. If you disagree with even a single aspect of this panel, the author would gleefully portray you as a villain in the next issue. How dare you take issue with so many people being happy!?

Also can we talk about how the art sucks? Like, look behind the marchers. It's just empty, flat blue space. Look at the feet. Look at the indistinguishable purplish blob behind the little girl in the yellow shirt.

Marvel literally has a character called black panther who's possibly most famous arc was him beating up white supremacists.
