the end result of this isn't robot uprising, it's grey-goo

basically, once you have a nano-bot that can self-replicate, and do so in a normal earth environment by making use of the available resources... then theoretically they will self-replicate exponentially consuming all available resources and spreading across the globe as a "grey goo".

it's actually plausible (in some sense that's already what animals/life are, but this would be at a microscopic scale; and they would reproduce asexually only by building more of themselves.)

We'd basically become an eldritch horror that other civilizations would be utterly terrified of. At least until we assimilate them into our apotheosis.
