You know to decide who gets your Charizard card, etc.

Since there was another topic about inheritance, what about the other side of the equation?

I wrote on a sheet of printer paper that I want all my money to go to my nephew. It isn't official but legally I think that's who my money would default to anyway? My family knows where the piece of paper is.

There's other stuff on there too, like asking them to make a topic here to let everyone know I died and didn't just stop coming one day!

No but I've been thinking about it lately and i should probably at least write something out. Even if it's not official it will let my family know my wishes.

No but I really should to make sure my pets are properly cared for in case anything happens to both me and my wife. I help a ton of animal rescues so I'm sure I could make an arrangement with one of them

Been meaning to for a long time but still haven't. My understanding of Ontario law is a holographic will (written out by hand) is legally binding without any witnesses needed, so that's literally all I have to do, just get a pen and paper and get it all down... gotta do it sometime soon.

Well the rules say no lending of accounts, I wonder if permanent passing-on counts the same as lending... but I could picture Roba's brother taking over the -zoid accounts without making any announcement on Roba's passing. Account impersonation to keep the SMFFFC saving duty going.

And while it will kill him inside, he will continue to profess how great of a character Eiko is, even if he doesn't feel the same way, in order to keep up appearances...

A friend I was living with died this summer. He had lots of plans for giving things out to his friends, things as big as his house. It sounded like things had been prepared in a will, but it's been a few months now and there's no sign of anything outside of his life insurance available for people to find. Because of this missing or non-existant will, everything he owned went to the one family member he did not want anything to do with. His family didn't even have a public service for friends, and it's not clear to me his family held a service either.

I say that to say...if you care about where your stuff goes after you pass away or you have people you care about helping in some way after passing away, get a will and do it right. Now. Go do it. There's never a great time so go do it and get it done with.

I''ve got mine written and have updated people verbally -- just gotta get my three signatures and notary at this point.

There are good resources online for this in case you want to and aren't sure where to start, including joincake and getyourshittogether. Caitlin Doughty/Ask a Mortician on YouTube has a whole series of end of life planning videos where you can pick up info/satisfy morbid curiosities in a more-entertaining-than-it-has-any-right-to-be format.

I will admit that I don't have this together but am planning to by the end of next year. I find that Americans in particular are not comfortable with talking about/dealing with death, and that leaves you up a creek when you have to deal with it. You do not want to face that learning curve while on grief brain, so get into it sooner rather than later. Set yourself a concrete deadline [pardon the pun!].
