In a coffee maker.

The bags of coffee generally provide no information in this regard. How much grounds to how much water?

What do the numbers on the side of my coffee caraffe mean? cups(as in the measurement of a cup), or cups(as in standard size cups of coffee)

and if its the first one, how big is a cup(measurement) compared to a cup(coffee mug)

I feel like i am really overthinking this.

It's (roughly) about a tablespoon for each notch on the coffee pot.

Cups, spoons etc, are about ratios. The idea being since weights and volumes might be too difficult for some people, and a way for recipes to remain a bit universal.

When I used to make coffee, I would normally do 1 scoop of grounds for every 2 cups of water used.

I believe the notches on the side of the coffee pot represent 2 cups of water for each notch. Cups as in the measurement ratio, not the size of the cup you are using.

8 ounces of water equals 1 cup. Tea cups are usually designed to hold around 8 ounces, or 1 cup of water. Coffee mugs usually hold about 16 ounces or 2 cups of water.

The main trick is to figure out how much coffee your mug holds, and how much you drink in the day, and then prepare your coffee using the ratios above.

I use one tablespoon for every "2 cups" as listed on the side of the coffee pot.

I put about 3/4 cup into my coffee maker.

But I have a cold brew coffee maker and it makes about 32 ounces of concentrate, which will make about 1/2 to 3/4 gallon of iced coffee, depending on how dark the roast is.

I think most coffee makers go by 4 or 6oz cups or whatever so if you have like a real people sized mug it can be anywhere from 12 to 16oz and up. Sure you could be one of those people that get a scale but a good general rule is just to use 2 tablespoons of coffee beans or grounds for the 4 to 6oz or whatever.
