It's bad enough that it is literally costing people their lives and perpetuating this pandemic, but it also fosters distrust of physicians and scientists as well. I've literally had patients claim that I'm just trying to make money off them by diagnosing them with COVID. And patients get visibly angry when I recommended vaccination or refused to prescribe ivermectin.

This sort of rhetoric is deliberately dogwhistled on FOXNews, and it gives these people the notion that somehow all of medicine is an elite cabal of leftists trying to control them. It's utter insanity.

It's only a matter of time before this anti-public health rhetoric extends to vaccinations in general - measles, etc.

GOP's primary political tool is fear mongering, they've used it for years and its proven time and again to work, it speaks to that reptile brain at the core of us all that's governed by basic stimuli like hunger and pain. its their counter to any science or common sense based argument, it falls apart if you think about it but as they've said time and again they like the poorly educated and unthinking.

will it spread to the basic vaccinations everyone gets as a kid? personally, i dont really think so since those diseases aren't hot button topics that they can stir up a controversy over.

Republicans in Tennessee actually did end all vaccine outreach to children recently. Fortunately, they reversed that decision after getting a lot of criticism.

People SHOULD have less trust in physicians

But not because of covid and right wing extremism

When physicians allowed insurance companies and the pharmaceutical industry to dictate what flies and what doesn't when it comes to taking care of people, they deserved to lose all trust.

Real physicians would have found a way to destroy, defy, alter, or otherwise end around those institutions preventing them from helping people in the name of the almighty and rapidly declining dollar.

I've personally witnessed too many people get their lives fucked by something a doctor recommended.

But hey, what do the rest of us know, right? We didn't waste our lives learning how to help exploit others.

because its not in the news cycle or trending on twitter. now, if there's a big upswing in measles cases and the CDC makes a push to get more kids vaccinated, then you'll see the GOP start waving the anti-vax flag for the MMR shots...

here's the thing. the GOP isn't inherently evil, its not inherently looking to get people killed or hurt by pushing this shit... they're just not above endorsing inherently evil policies if it plays well to their audience.

an example, look at the abortion shit in texas. now see, they dont actually care about abortion, and they're not actively looking to fuck over women by restricting their reproductive rights, but they know their voters think that abortion = murder = HELL and they happily play up that idea because it gets their voters scared thinking the other side will send them to HELL if they dont support the GOP. and the masterstroke, when people pointed out that the new law would make it illegal for a woman to abort a fetus from a rape, instead of side stepping the fact the texas governor pushes the idea that he's just gonna outlaw rape... something that's already illegal, and in no way preventable by making it super illegal... but hey, if they phrase it right they can make their unthinking sheep believe that democrats just encouraged rape or something.

This is true to a degree. Especially amongst the old school "I just want to be rich and not pay any taxes" kind of conservative. The newer ones though, the Boeberts, Gaetz, and MTG crowd, they absolutely buy in hook line and sinker.

I've ben saying this. They're destroying all medicine. Everything they believe and suggest implies that doctors can't be trusted. They can claim they are just being skeptical of a single vaccine, but if you imply that basically everyone involved in medicine is perpetuating a lie out of greed or fear of a dark cabal, it's hard to ever have faith in those people again. If I believed my next door neighbor was a rapist, I'd have a hard time trusting him to mow my lawn or ever do anything ever again. "I trust my doctor, except that one time he tried to push the socialist government's deadly experimental vaccine on us". Not even a brain full of worms can think like that.

not really. Anti vaxxers and religious folk still run to "experts"

It's just the "experts" they accept are the ones telling them what they want to hear

I have literally had anti vaxxers link me to quack doctors grifting right wing crap and calling the vaccine a bioweapon while selling supplements and then been unrionically told "You can't ignore doctors because you don't like what they say. They're experts."

Questioning things is skepticism.
Ignoring the answers is ignorance.

Anti vaxxers are not and never have "just asked questions" they always just denied reality.

And no going "I'm not defending Anti vaxxers just don't trust doctors and science and be humble about indisputable facts to people who claim it's a 4G bioweapon that will kill kids. Also their inaction is killing people." is not skeptcism.

It's being an incredibly weak and flimsy apologist for the most foolish and harmful first world beliefs going today that will continue to cause mass suffering and death totally needlessly
