Im reading it now, up to Chapter 72. This manga has blown my mind, especially for a shonen jump story. Its been funny going from watching Demon Slayer, to watching Jujutsu Kaiden, then reading this. Each one has topped the last.

It became one of my all time favorites pretty quickly. GL, those last twenty chapters or so are a doozy!

It's really great art and storytelling. I'm less enthusiastic about the fights though, especially in the last half every single fight is just people getting instantly decapitated/limbs severed/body parts missing, not really exciting or interesting to me. The manga is not really about the fights, but I still wish they were better

Now up to Chapter 82.... well that was all fucked. This set of chapters was very Aki-focused, which was funny considering my earlier comment. I'm starting to think this Makima girl might not be all that good a person..... Denji ironically giving up his free will to the Control Devil was depressing to see

So theres something I dont get (well, that might be a bit of an understatement, but theres a particular thing thats on my mind), and its about the gun devil. We learn that the expedition to find and kill the gun devil was a lie, and in reality a few major countries have large quantities of its body. After learning this, Aki theorizes that the expedition is really just an attempt from Japan to get more of the pieces for itself, but it seems clear that Makima was orchestrating events such that she could get Denji to fight the gun devil in Akis body this is a tangent, but I feel like so far everything that has happened in the story has been to either to Makimas advantage, or she directly controlled the situation to have it happen.

Anyway, where Im going with this is: the us president forged a contract with the gun devil to fight Makima. But the gun devils body is in pieces right? And some are controlled by countries that we are told have given up fighting Makima. So how does that work?

I must admit I'm not well versed on the mechanics. I can only imagine you don't need to the whole thing to make a contract.

Trying to even look it up on the wiki suggests that it's unclear.

His body was only a torso and head and gun-arms when he was summoned, so perhaps if he were actually complete he would have had more body parts like legs or a tail or something

Finished! What a great manga. Probably the best one I read since Steel Ball Run. I like the idea that Makima never really "saw" Denji, just the Chainsaw Devil, that Denji was able to use that to his advantage to get the jump on her. Then his plan of just... eating her before she could regenerate was so delightfully gruesome. I don't think I ever really understood the full extent of Makima's power. Like, I get she can control anyone she thinks is beneath her. But she can bring them back to life? And that's different the zombie devil she controls. At some point I just learned to roll with it.

I haven't read any manga in quite a while. Good paneling gets me really excited but also I'm kind of debating if I should just hop onboard with the anime given the timing.

Don't worry, they didn't really go into detail, and it's also never clear which abilities are from her own power as the Control Devil and which come from others that she is controlling.

I am...SLIGHTLY afraid of what it's going to be like when the anime makes it hit the main stream. It's already pretty dang popular but it's going to be a whole different situation.

I think I'll move on to Chainsaw Man after finishing Fire Punch. It's the kind of work that's flawed, but at the same time, still makes you feel like the author has good ideas and just needs to get more general storytelling experience. And Chapter 45 was 10/10 in execution

Biggest Aki-related LOL is his sword that takes years off his life doing nothing to that katana hybrid, so he cut his life down to like a year for nothing.
