i tried lunatic on the demo and its okay i guess but getting one shotted by virtually everything is dumb so i'm just gonna stick with Inferno

first boss down, pretty easy stuff but on inferno you can only make one mistake which is fair imo

its immediately noticeable how much better the choreography for the cutscenes in this game are compared to 8 and celceta

the crimson line shit is really gimmicky and lame though and i wish it didnt exist outside of its combat version

if there isn't any doubt that adol x dogi is the OTP, here it is

no but dogi appears more than anyone else

so this game appears to use pre rendered cutscenes at times and it is very jarring because not only does it look like shit compared to when the game is maxed (which also doesnt look good mind you) but the framerate on them is also atrocious

the gigantic barrier lines preventing you from exploring is also very annoying and jarring

oh and the minimap in this game is also really bad with regards to markers and elevation, it will show you treasures and other things that you cannot reach/are not even in your line of sight

so after doing multiple of them now, these tower defense missions are comparatively ass vs the ys8 ones, at least at this point. like sure they can get better but i doubt it

I got it a few weeks back and already beat it. Storywise, it's up there with VIII and Celceta. It defenately isn't going to win any beauty contests though.

The Ys games are basically about Adol's different adventures. The only game that doesn't star Adol is Ys Origin.

Ys8 is a great game to jump into (tons of fun). Just know that 2 games actually take place in between Ys 8 and Ys 9, so the time will jump forward a bit, if you play Ys 9 right after.

Hopefully soon. I believe they still used the engine they used for the Vita for this. Ys 8 was a Vita game after all. But Nihon Falcom is using a new engine as of 2020. So we'll have to see how well that goes.

I like it when you get the white cat. The start of the game is fairly weak but i began to like how dynamic the traversion is. The magic barrier is a bit awkward buf it's a city so you cannot design natural barriers around the levels like in seiren or other locations.

Sony dickery is moving developers to Switch, which is not a very beefy platform.

i got to chapter 5. overall 8 is still unrivaled. it's good, but the camaraderie between the castaways and the map progression is much better in 8.

ys9 has strong central mystery, i am liking it so far. exploration in city is pretty fun, but the fields feels weak they're just empy open spaces and how you inches toward unlocking the map isn't as natural as 8.

Haven't bought 9 yet but it's saved for later. I love Ys and the past 5 or 6 games I've played have all been fun, some more than others. 8 and 9 will be my first of the console Ys games and I have to say the graphics do look rather... well, budget title. ps2 budget. If I didn't love Ys so much I'd be skeptical but it's just an observation from some of these images and demo I've tried.

ys 9 is just particularly ugly ostly because of the drab aesthethic choice. 8 was pretty because the of the vistas, landmarks and various biomes you visit .

I like doll. Her sprint animation is just satisfying so and she's pretty good in combat. Default attack has good aoe and hits pretty hard and her skills are generally is good AOE.

Kitty is my least favorite in combat but her latest skill finally makes her decent outside of enemy with crush damage weakness.

Adol's good as usual and when you get his higher skill, he becomes a monster fighter like usual.

Hawk is also surprisingly great, feels like laxia with better AOE.

Ah that's it. Yeah it was 9's demo that made me feel a slight twinge of disappointment since I remember 8 looking nice, but we'll see.

I felt the demo's mechanics like running up walls was a bit weird and don't know how they'll use it in the game in a fun way, plus the flying, but maybe it's better in the final product.

I saw Ys 9 in my discovery queue a couple days ago on Steam. My first reaction was "didn't 8 just come out like very recently?!" So I added 9 to my wishlist. And bought 8. >_>

The only one I've played is 1 a few years back since my friend randomly bought it for me on Steam. Probably only played for 30 mins. Had no idea where to go lol.
