The only game that doesn't star Adol is Ys Origin. Ys8 is a great game to jump into (tons of fun). Just know that 2 games actually take place in between Ys 8 and Ys 9, so the time will jump forward a bit, if you play Ys 9 right after. Ys 8 was a Vita game after all. But Nihon Falcom is using a new engine as of 2020.
