So many of their translations on Swedish Disney+ are so off. They are either so different from the original they no longer mean the same thing or they are literal direct translations which doesnt work either in many cases.

My latest example: an episode of The Bad Batch which is called Common Ground in English. You know, the English expression about working together with someone you usually disagree with. Disney has directly translated the title to Gemensam mark which means Commonly/collectively owned land. Is Disney going socialist?

Lol translation mishaps crack me up, reminds me of that story which may be an urban legend, idk but where the Come Alive With the Pepsi Generation slogan from the 60s was translated somewhere as Pepsi brings your ancestors back to life.

Now that was a total clusterfuck hahaha. One translation which sticks with me: Advent calendar to put children in.

It's really weird how in today's day and age even "professionals" don't put in the effort to get a proper translation.

Likely true, I recall my brother mocking some translation regarding the word 'endgame', must be that.

Korea's movie translations are horrible. I make it a point never to watch any movies dubbed into Korean because the translators are bound to have screwed up.

They're just translating transcripts without any context, you often end up with literal translations.

Compare that to some unofficial translations, made by fans and such, who actually saw the content. In many cases they go as far as add quick explanation to pop-culture references and foreign language-specific expressions in the subtitles.

Fan subtitles can also be hilariously bad and wrong as well, watching Anime was interesting in in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Not just Disney. A lot of the time the Swedish subs are shit on TV. I think many are using bots to translate.

I think I'm right when I say most subs are generated by bots, or translated without context, or both. Translators aren't given the time to watch the entire episode/movie.
