I mean the women certainly aren't useless. Poorly written definitely, but the leading women are all integral to the plot.

I'm hoping the show fixes some of that, they have a good chance to improve the weaker aspects of the books.

I'm assuming they'll improve the female characters a lot even if just to avoid obvious backlash. The books were pretty fucked in that regard.... but also everyone was an idiot in the books tbf.

I also imagine they'll have to cut a lot of fat and really improve the pacing.

Just really annoying. As were the men. They're really going to have to tone down the sexism and make characters more tolerable. Besides the length of the series, I stopped halfway through partially cause everyone was getting so annoying with the constant fighting and insults and everything relying on nobody ever talking to each other.

This is easily the most frustrating fucking thing about it. It has a lot of issues but 95% of everything hinges on everyone being a fucking idiot and refusing to just communicate. Not even that but half the time they're plotting against eachother and suspecting ewchother half the time.

the women were extremely useful. But (end of series spoilers)
the villains need a complete rewrite. I cant think of a single thing they ever acheived apart from killing off minor Aes Sedai. And they were all the most powerful and knowledgeable characters in the series apart from Rand and Nynaeve.

Yep. You have one cause. The story justifies why a lot of the aes sedai would be plotting and secretive and whatnot, but for everyone else its just really bad writing.

Considering the god awful casting choices that just spit in the face of all Jordan's hardwork, no I am not looking forward to this anymore. Jordan meticulously described every detail in his books, literally every detail, so to just completely ignore his work for the sake of pushing an agenda is utterly disrespectful to his memory. I can't believe Harriet is allowing this.

A lot of the people in here haven't actually read the books. Or just didn't understand them.

The books are amazing and you should definitely read them. The show seems to be going the typical modern woke Hollywood route.

the story is awesome. the books are awesome. my biggest concern is only how hard it will be to tell the story in this medium. there are a ton of elements to the story that won't translate well to only audio or visuals.

Faile and perrin are absolute morons with a super unhealthy relationship where they can't ever say what they want and constantly aggravate things, and Matt is a goof half the time... and besides Min those are the more reasonable characters most of the time.

Min is the only one who isn't a raging idiot more often than not.

When its literally every character and they're all working towards the same goal of the world not being destroyed its pretty lazy writing when most of them have mo reason or motivation to be that pointlessly difficult.

The amount of times that problems could've easily been avoided by even the most basic communication was lazy writing. Everyone was always making things worse all the time and very few ever had a reason for it besides the aes sedai.

The main characters arguably caused more problems for themselves than the forsaken even came close to.

Yeah there we go.

All this post does is show you never actually read the books. The nations/areas were specifically divided up in the story. The world of The Wheel of Time isn't modern day America, it's based on Middle Age Europe. Not to mention the main cast of the first book is from an area of the world essentially cut off from the rest of it for a thousand years who were descendents of another group of people already described as being the same hair/eye colors and skin tone, they aren't going to be diverse of skin color.

Valid point but still I've rarely read a book and been so consistently annoyed by the complete lack of common sense and reason among the main cast.

I feel like there were a lot of moments where instead of coming up with a good reason for something to be intense and dramatic he often resorted to "or maybe ill just have everyone be total morons instead, yeah that works."

But again overall I love the series.

That was the point...

It was to show human nature. Everyone always thinks they know best. The rich and powerful will always care about staying rich and powerful. I mean look at our world today. The sun boiling the earth to death and pollution making it a toxic wasteland? Keep on buying shit and using fossil fuels, gotta make those investors happy! Look how many countries on earth today can't work together or don't talk.

There is literally nothing that happened in the books in regards to lack of communication or dumbassery that doesn't happen in our world today.

ugh, spoilers. i'll try to be vague

lots of internal monologues
the importance of other senses
hidden information. sometimes one character interacts with another that the reader is familiar with, but the character isn't. this is usually obfuscated for the reader, but with hints that can be pieced together. can't do that as well when we can see the actors faces.

I mean that's not really the full story, but whatever. Have any specific examples?

And you know the story takes place over the course of about 2-3 years right? It's not like human nature is all of a sudden going to change for every person alive just like that.

Look at all the growth of the characters in terms of strength, knowledge of themselves and their abilities, personal development and acceptance, and growth in position in the world and the way they eventually take to it.

All of that but they can't learn to have a basic, much needed, straight forward conversation with proven new allies or even longtime friends.

Again I really enjoyed the series. But it has glaring problems and I feel like most people would agree.
