Most figure it'd be unwise to just up and go to war with the SA.

But I'll do it just for the sake of it and for flexing.

They are the least progressive country in the Middle East. Allying with USA doesn't make them progressive. Turkey, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, hell, even Israel are more progressive.

"More progressive" in the relative sense.

Doubt their parents will allow it though. My family freaked out when I moved out. In their opinion I was bringing shame to the family and only sluts move out without a husband. And we were living in Canada not Saudi Arabia

Theyre Egyptian and immigrated to Canada. So me and my siblings were born in Canada but raised very traditionally at home and there was a lot of crap to deal with. They were especially strict with my sister and I, while my brother was allowed to do whatever he wanted because he was a boy. Anytime I talked about moving out I was met with physical threats of how theyd beat the shit out of me if I tried, or how I would shame them in the community and everyone would think I was a slut and judge our family.

I actually am one of the only women in our community that did move out on my own without getting married first. Even my sister got married first. I actually lived with my husband in secret for over 2 years before we got married lol

sheesh, what a bunch of pointless stress. cheers to you for having the courage to do the right thing, standing up to family is especially hard. the irony here being that their behavior is infinitely more "shameful" than anything you did.

have they gotten any better about any of this stuff over the years or no?

Not really. My mom was commenting about this near 40 year old woman who still lives with her parents and how nice it was because women shouldnt live alone. But now that Im married she doesnt say anything to me anymore. I moved to the US too so Im very far from all the crap. She just better not expect me to raise my daughter the way they raised me and my sister. All their rules and shit just made me and my sister lie to them and hide everything. Which is what most ME girls do.

Ill never forget when we were in Egypt and my cousins took us out and went to pick up a girl from her place. She waved to her parents all nicely and as we drove off lit up a cigarette and had this look of pure bliss to do what she wanted away from her parents. Or how at a party, my dads aunt was sneaking me drinks when no one was looking (I was legal drinking age and Egypt is secular so drinking is allowed), because its improper for unmarried women to drink.

Here's a tangentially related question: What would Saudi Arabia be called if and when the House of Saud lose power? Arabia? Najd? Something else?

Isn't Najd a region in Arabia? I think it'd be called Arabia or the Kingdom of Arabia

That's true. Najd and Hejaz would be the better name, but that's a bit cumbersome.

Arabia has some irredentist implications that I don't really like. It kind of suggests that the other countries on the peninsula would rightfully be part of this country.
