Just discovered then finished the series in a week. Idk it just grabbed me and Im mad I overlooked it till now lol.

Tbh the original hook was already great and as obvious as the season 1 twist should have been, I didnt see it coming. There was just so much good material in season 1 that they really didnt need to develop the premise any further. But they did. And they kept moving and evolving and holy shit youd think a show that keeps changing its basic premise as often as this one does would just get bad or not know what it wants to be, but its all golden.

Like after the first few episodes i was just expecting a fun, warm comedy but it just gets so unexpectedly heavy by the end I was actually teary eyed.

Ughhhhh why did I watch through this whole show in a week I should have just done a bit at a time now its over already aghhhhh

But really the actress who plays Janet has got some fucking range.

Also Holts husband being a big business president-style demon is fucking great. Kevins episodes in Brooklyn 99 were my favorite of that series just for that guy, and hes just as awesome here lol.

The lead actor was an awful choice. Zero chemistry with Christian Bale who was literally his polar opposite.

For real. Even Jason who should, in theory, be really one note.

I'm not usually a fan of "the stupid one", especially when they're as played up as Jason usually was, but he really was great.

I've always liked Kevin Cozner's appearances in these shows like B99, Parks and Rec, this, etc

The big tipoff in season 1 has always been frozen yogurt. As someone who literally throws up from froyo, this was a pretty big tell. Not my version of heaven by any stretch of the imagination

Michael Schur has done B99 and Parks now, he's pioneered this type of sitcom where everyone isn't awful and characters are likeable.

Ted Danson's lines on this were magical.

I love Froyo though. I don't see why you would put toppings on it, but whatever.

I knew the season 1 twist because it became a meme, but fuck me it was executed well. Ted Danson's evil laugh was incredible, and the fact that he just stands there and gloats at them as the entire facade crashes down - incredible.

But yeah. Eleanor and Chidi were such an incredible love story by the end of it, and it fucking killed me to see Chidi go. I'm a total sap, I like to believe in the power of love and finding such satisfaction in the comfort of another human being that you could stay in their presence and be content forever - but the fact is that despite his love for Eleanor and the weight of what they all accomplished... he was done. He found himself satisfied with everything he had accomplished, and all that was left for him was to go to the great beyond and become a part of the universe.

I mentioned in a thread not too long ago that I feel a pressure to not cry. Even when something is really sad and I want to cry, I've managed to harden myself to such a degree that I can hold it in.

I cried like a little bitch when Chidi went. I fucking wept.

I really loved Ted Danson in this, my favorite role of his by far. Everything from his lines to his excellent comedic timing.

I love the reactions back when season 1 finale aired all those years ago. So many people were so upset and feeling betrayed and claiming that they "ruined" his character and all that was established, which made me lol because it actually fit perfectly with his character. And incidentally, led into the season 2 development wonderfully. The very fact that he was so fascinated with humans made perfect sense in his designing of the neighbourhood compared to just straight up penis flattening torture.

Another thing that makes this show fantastic is that it literally sets up so many premises that other, lesser shows (like CBS channel crap) would stretch out for like 10 seasons, and yet this show steamrolls through them in like a single episode. Sometimes almost too fast, it's just amazing.
