If you need to walk around in public with an assault rifle strapped to your back, your pecker is likely as small as your brain. As liberal as I am, i'm hardly the "ban guns" kind of guy, but there is no reason to be strapping a weapon like this to your back when you go to Walmart. That's a bit unhinged to say the least.

He was clearly a danger, yeah. It's unfortunate that people get to this point in their lives because of drugs or mental problems, but sometimes a situation is too risky and unpredictable. If the subject is armed, noncompliant, and approaching innocent people... well, that becomes a life or death situation, doesn't it?

He got to that point because of guns. He just happened to be acting erratically at the time because of drugs he had taken that day. The drugs were a random one-off, but guns got him to that point. I am not going to elaborate or provide evidence though, because I don't feel obligated to do so.

I do have a pretty good working knowledge of these things, there is no purpose to the open carrying of any kind of long gun when going about your daily life. It's done purely to provoke a reaction or as a dick measuring thing. Any situation that the average citizen might find themselves in that requires a defensive use of a firearm would be just as easily handled by a handgun.

This situation however isn't about that, this guy was clearly mentally ill, and the gun was pointed at himself, not anyone else. The cop did not need to shoot and kill a clearly suicidal man. If the the guys begins to point the weapon anywhere else, sure that's a clean shoot. This is just a cop being afraid, which is fine, but if you are scared of people with guns, maybe being a cop in the US isn't a job for you.
