argonautweakend 03/25/21 9:45:28 PM #1:	Look, I'm not really a movie or TV watcher except for some things. But out of them all, I really do NOT like the music video. I love music a lot. But i've never jived with the music video. So often they add nothing at all to the song(Looking at you, Feel The Pain by Dinosaur Jr.), and the way most are shot and edited(there is a Tom Scott video about this) is so whack it seems senseless. I've never cared for 'em outside of when I was a kid. Some music videos actually aren't just format quick cuts and closeups and whatever else, and actually do add or tell the story, being something of a mini-movie. But often it is not necessary to just see a video form of the songs meaning. If it isn't obvious, this could actually be good. If you're gonna make a music video, you can do anything. I mean, the music video for "Bastards of Young" by The Replacements is just the camera slowly zooming out, and at the end the guy in the chair beats the shit out of the stereo. Since your average format music video is so terrible, you almost couldn't make anything worse than already acceptable mainstream examples. Fuck the music video. Take most of Micheal Jackson's music videos for example. They really personify him as more than just a singer. --- "What are you playing? Australian rules?" "Yeah. The format lends itself to more experimentation since the director usually isn't confined to a particular narrative and on average only has roughly three to five minutes of screen time to work with. I actually think the "mini-movie" format of music video is the worst.
