So, funny thing. Mass Effect 1 was one of my favorite games of all time. But for some reason, I never got around to playing the sequels. >_>

I know the remaster is coming like, next month but Ive been sitting on the PC trilogy from an old sale and idk if my laptop is gonna be able to handle it anyway. Just finished ME1 and am finally about to start the second.

Any non-spoilery things I should know? >_>

This mission just got a whole lot more complicated >_>

On the other hand I also fixed the unsupported hardware issue. Its an old gaming laptop and i had to manually tell the game to use the fancy graphics card lol.

I can go into slightly more depth, but not without minor spoilers.

Picked Infiltrator because thats what I was in 1, but it looks like they changed the way it played. I dont have any of my cool fuck you powers like Overload or Damping. >_>

Speaking of, its gonna take a while to get used to this gameplay lol. I actually enjoyed they janky RPG combat from 1. But it does feel a lot smoother.

Other than that, I picked FemShep. Romanced Liara. Killed Ashley, , saved Wrex and saved the Cpuncil and made Anderson the first human councilor.

I think thats all the major choices. >_>

I did my Insanity runs with Infiltrator.. i LOVE that class.

Pop Cloak, aim, fire. Reload whilst cloak recharges

Rinse and Repeat.

Obviously prefer using high damage, low clip Sniper Rifles that way, but its SOOO Satisfying.

ME2 doesnt have it on Humanoid enemies IIRC, but come ME3 you can literally blow heads off.

In ME2 its isolated to the Mechs, again IIRC.

From what i know, it was made with this in mind, you should get used to it.

From what ive heard the remaster will also make ME1 a bit more like this as well. Amongst other things, an Adept would be able to use the Sniper Rifle Scope.

Yeah, this is the sort of game where you're gonna want to meticulously complete everything before moving onto the next thing. There's a lot of stuff to do, and I understand if thenprosoect becomes kinda daunting, but it's worth it. This game has a lot of unlockable weapons, and you're gonna need the XP to keep your characters and their powers at the top of their game. You know how it is.

Also, I will say, this game is more linear than the first game. As someone who has leant more towards open worlds and world maps and all of that, I felt that ME2 benefitted significantly from that linearity. The story and gameplay are much more focused as a result. That might sound kinda iffy, but I reckon you'll see what I mean if you take to the game.

I haven't seen much of the thread, so I'm sorry if this has already been asked - but out of the Mass Effect characters from the first game, who's the one you'd like to romance the most?

I know Garrus is supposed to be romanceable but I dont have it in me to be unfaithful to video game waifus. >_>

Also pretty random but despite only being a bit character for like, 2 sidequests I kind of liked Emily Wong lmao

And yeah, Tali's pretty great. Best character.

I'm looking forward to this thread, if you decide to use it as a playthrough topic. My first 500 post topic was me playing through the Mass Effect games, so I have a soft spot for Mass Effect threads.

Everyone liked 2 more than 1 but I was highly disappointed by the severe toning down of the RPG aspects. The little amount of weaponry and gear you get was disappointing. The skill trees being super small was pretty sad too.

Gameplay was way better, though. Just wish it kept more of the RPG feel the first one had

Sidenote: if the changes to Mass Effect 1 are significant enough, I can't wait for the videos where Remaster newbies react to playing the original, unedited game. I feel like the remaster will bring a small wave of "wow the Mako stuff isn't as bad as you all made it out to be", and to see them go back to the original one will probably be a lot of fun - given that they have "fixed" the Mako.

Personally, I really liked the Mako. But I'm the kind of guy who'll find a seam in the Skyrim world map and use it to jump up a mountain. I don't get why more people don't just go diagonally up sharp inclines.

The gameplay is better, but I was perfectly okay with how it was in the first game as well. And Mass Effect 1 has a better story, significantly better side missions, and better exploration. The improved gameplay does not make up for the loss of those.

Still, ME2 is very good. Just not quite on the same level as the first game for me.

Yeah, the Sonic 06 LP by pokecapn came out like a year after Mass Effect launched. And I think that's considered one of the better LPs of the time.

I legitimately have no big issue with the gameplay in ME1. It's janky and not as action packed as later games, but it's perfectly reasonable, if not 'good' to me. Shooting is enjoyable. Using powers is... okay. It works perfectly well for a depthful RPG like Mass Effect. My main gripes with the gameplay comes from the constant enemy banter and the poor optimization for weapons other than pistol.

I think I like the story of 1 the most, and the gameplay of 3 the most. The thing that 2 excelled at was tone, and frankly I think it's the most cohesive mixture of story and gameplay out of the three games. Like it's the most evenly balanced game of the lot.

Yeah I enjoyed using the Mako. I think the problem was more that the topography of the side planets got pretty wild with their elevations. Lots of mountains and hills. So I can see why people might have been annoyed trying to maneuver the Mako around those. But I also liked that too because it made the planets feel more alien.

The ending to that game was mind crushingly amazing.

Mass Effect 2 had the finest writing of any video game I've ever played. Just phenomenal. The game itself wasn't incredible, but the stories and characters were. Most of the DLC was pretty good too. I particularly liked overlord, mostly because it was a clear homage to lawnmower man.

Pretty much the only games that seem to scale indefinitely, regardless of hardware or advancements in operating system, are ones made on the source engine. Half-Life 2 still runs like a game that was made yesterday, which is kind of amazing in a weird way.

Don't get me wrong, I use that all the time, but dosbox is emulation. Not exactly the same thing as suggesting you can just install the game from 1995 onto your PC and run it. Using those kinds of standards, there are plenty of Retron type devices that can take cartridges but connect to modern TVs.
