No I think you're thinking of Pokemon 2000: The Power of One. I remember when Jessie said "opposite sex". I was young when I heard that in the theater and I was literally like "WHOA, they said that word!!" xD
This is Power of Us, came out in 2018 I think. Lugia is in the movie but unfortunately only for a short time, and I guess in this new timeline of movies, the legendary Pokemon/Mystical Pokemon don't actually speak human language, they just roar like actual animals/monsters.
Overall this movie was kinda meh and I give it a 5/10. I dunno why this is the only Pokemon movie to get a "fresh" rating on Rottentomatoes. I guess it just wasn't really my thing. Pokemon the Movie I Choose You was better.
Anyways, it's on to Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution now. I'm expecting this to be best of the 3, given my obsession with Pokemon the First Movie as a child.

Probably. The story doesn't have anything to do with Pokemon 2000 and the only relation at all is the Pokemon Lugia.
I guess it's just a nod to Pokemon 2000 that's all. It's also the second movie in the alternate timeline just like 2000 was the second ever Pokemon movie.

I don't go that far out of my way to see Pokemon movies (since they tend to be based on the tv series which is generally garbage), but I kinda enjoyed the Hoopa and Volcanion ones.

The whole movie was strange and unfamiliar, from the art style to the voice acting to the whole alternate feel of it.

Feels like they were trying to completely reimagine the whole cast and I have no idea why lol wtf

Anyway, Mewtwo was definitely the best one, as I expected.
I don't really get how Mewtwo comes to the big realization at the end, the whole "circumstances of ones birth are irrelevant" thing. Why does Ash turning to stone and Pokemon crying suddenly make him come to that realization? Just feels out of place and doesn't make sense to me.
That's something that never really made sense to me in both Pokemon the First Movie and this one pretty much did it the exact same.
Then again I'm probably overthinking it and it's just poorly translated from the original Japanese. Probably just seems ambiguous when it really isn't.

I hadn't seen a Pokemon movie since Pokemon 3 in theaters when I was young. I watched the most recent 3 because nostalgic fans who were Pokemon fans in the old days will like them too. You should check them out as well.
