A Michigan man was killed earlier this month when he was struck by shrapnel from a gender-reveal cannon being used at a baby shower, authorities said.

I don't think explosives are a heritable trait, and it's hard to say whether or not this will impact his ultimate reproductive success (since we don't know if he would have had more kids after this).

I still don't know how the explosive device blew up spontaneously. What are they making these things out of Nitroglycerin? I thought they would use something more stable like gunpowder or tannerite or something.

Tannerite is pretty safe. It will only pretty much blow up if struck by a bullet. Of course the chalk you use will make a fricken mess of the area it blows up in. I am more partial to fireworks because of this, since it will not blight the area with blue or pink dust until the end of time like tannerite and chalk.

I mean fireworks are still around and probably will be for years so I doubt this will end. I like fireworks but dislike folk who use them wrongly.

Eh. I'd consider ethnic genocide to be worse but that's seriously splitting hairs and I think all parties can agree that we'd rather neither happen.

I think a Gender Reveal Party is, unquestionably, the height of DECIDANCE though. I mean, you live in a society where there's not only technology capable of determining your baby's gender but you also have enough disposable income to both find out what it is and throw a party, a party containing explosive devices no less, to reveal what it is. Oh. And in which a baby is exceedingly likely to survive and there isn't a massive cultural favoritism towards one gender.

Yeah, but explosives are more fun and you just don't get enough excuses throughout the year to blow something up. I mean, July 4th is a long ways away and that is just a few bottle rockets and roman candles most of the time. This is some serious firepower.

Says the person that did not live on a steady diet of building implosion videos as kid. I absolutely loved that stuff. I swear all they played as a kid on educational stations were sharks, dinosaurs, ancient egypt and building implosions, so explosions are like a quarter of my upbringing.

They're already banned in some places. They're definitely banned where I live because of extreme heat and dry brush. At least professionals are supposed to be the only one to use them now. Doesn't stop the assholes from firing them off for weeks before, during and after the fourth.
